I want to put my son on whole milk when he turns 9mo, he hasn't taken to the sippy cup.

I want to stop breast feeding and switch to wholemilk, he hasn't taken to the sippy cup and I'm afraid that if I just use a regular cup he won't get all the milk he needs. I didn't really want to use a bottle, but can't think of an alternative for nap and bed times. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I can only give you my opinions, not an expert... But if your son doesn't take the sippy cup, then you'll have to give him a bottle. Maybe he still has a need for sucking on something? And I understand , through parental classes and books aso, that milk shouldn't be given to babies before 12 months of age. Milk lowers the intake of iron, and a baby needs more iron than a grown man! So maybe a formula for babies his age would be better? Good luck :)

What's your hurry? A bottle really is your best option, as suckling is a comfort issue. Also, milk is for baby cows, not baby humans. There are other products available, so you may want to talk with your pediatrician.

In Australia, the health department says that babies need to be on either breastmilk or formula until they are one year old, otherwise the risk of their developing a lactose intolerance is very high.

My daughter is 16 months old and still drinks her milk from a bottle. It's part of our bonding time together... It depends a bit on why you're wanting to use the cup.
