im so sick of not getting the answers im looking for....

[deleted account] ( 11 moms have responded )

i dont know if my seven month old son is eating right. i have talked to my sons pcp about it and its general answers, not the ones im looking for.. the same with wic. he only eats 6 oz bottles at a time and he eats about 5-6 times a day,i want to know how to work in solid food (stage 2) oatmeal and rice cereal. he likes the solid foods but idk how much to feed him (one or two containers at a time) ive heard that people mix rice or oatmeal with the food. ive looked it up on google and the answers are so confusing. people say well i feed my baby one container and an 8 oz bottle.....there is no way my son will eat that much. they also say well i give my baby oatmeal and fruit in the mornings......do they mix it or serve it separately? also my sons doc said he needs at least 24oz of formula in a 24hr period, if thats the case that means there really isnt room for solids yet.

i know very child is different, but im sick of being confused :(

i need help!!!!

Yep. Just a snack. Solids are just for fun, taste, and experience. They aren't supposed to replace the milk until around a year.

Just give him his milk first and take his lead on the solids. If he wants it... let him eat some. If he doesn't.... don't worry about it. :)

its alright you don't have to worry that much, and i think the stress you are experiencing is making it more confusing then it has to be. when my boy was 6 months he would eat one jar of veggies or fruit, and sometimes he wouldn't finish it, other times i would open up another jar for him if he was still holding his mouth open for more. the little one knows when they full or hungry. you don't need to force feed them liquids or solids to a particular measurement standard that you heard or read somewhere, because as you said, every baby has different needs. formula/breast milk should be the majority of their diet, however...and that's pretty simple. as long as your little one is gaining weight appropriately according to each doctor's check ups, then its all good. trust your baby, and trust your gut, everything will be fine if you just feel it out.

One thing you have to remember, the doctors are giving you recommendations for a child that age. If you feel like your child is not able to consume that much, then don't give it to him. When my daughter was that age, I gave her baby food 3 times a day. In the morning she would get fruit baby food and a 4 oz bottle because like yours she could not consume all that much after eating. For lunch she would have a veggie and another bottle, and for supper I would alternate the fruit and veggie along with a bottle. Now she would also get bottles in between meals as she needed. I never could get her to eat the rice cereal or the oatmeal so I never really worried about that.

The reason your doctor is saying 24 oz of formula in a 24 hour period is because solids should not be replacing formula it's only a supplement. Solids before one are just for fun. Other than that don't stress it if you want to mix food you can as long as you have served both separately and know that your little one isn't allergic to either. If you don't want to offer rice cereal don't it's not necessary, neither of my kids ever had it we went straight to fruits and veggies. I always offered solids after a feed or inbetween the longer feeds but never more than a couple spoonfuls when we just started.

Okay first of all take a deep breath! My daughter is 6 months old and she eats two solid means a day and three 5oz bottles. My doctor doesn't agree but she is the exact right weight for someone her age and in the height rage she is health and happy so I think what your giving your son is great! Your his mom you know what he needs! Ii personally would give him oatmeal and fruit served separately and only soft fruits mashed banana mashed strawberrys and only 1 container!! Have about 5 minute break between the oatmeal and fruit! Then in the afternoon for lunch a bottle then for a snack a bottle then for dinner I usually give her a small portion of what ever we eat unless it's has a lot of pasta then I'll make her like chicken and peas or what ever! At night another bottle if he doesn't eat it don't force it it means he isn't hungry! Just let your mothers instinct guide you you know what's best for him more than the doctors believe it or not if your super worried go see a nutriciouness and they'll make u a meal plan!

Good luck! Don't worry, you know what you need best of luck! Hope you and your son work it our soon :)
