Congrats on the baby bot he was born 3 days before my son turned 1... i was going to say take a hot shower or bath since that is what i did when i was a week late on having my son... Again Congrats!!!

Thanks Ladies I didn't use Castor Oil . I took a hot bath and by the next evening I was in labour had a baby boy on Feb 21 2010

no castor oil doesnt work and its not reccomended by doctors at all because if you take too much since it is a diretic it could cause dehydration...be careful and be paitent the baby will come at a unexpected time but hopefully soon...good luck

40 weeks is full term. Your baby and your body will come together and you will have your baby when the baby is fully ready to come. I am a big advocate for natural labors and letting your baby and body do there thing.

Castor not only doesn't work to help labor it is a laxative and thats not going to make you any more comfortable just very busy going to the bathroom and maybe very sore. Just wait tell the time comes.

A full term baby goes to 40wks, but nine months just sounds better. Sorry, I know you are miserable, however determining due dates is not an exact science. Its more of a best guess some are more accurate than others. My doctor stopped my labor saying my daughter was too small and only 36wk. Two weeks later with no painful signs of labor until it was to late to stop, my third and last child was born. It was then they realized that she was actually 42wks. I was scheduled for a C-section the following Friday, she would have been 43wks then. They will come when they are ready, as long as there are no problems try to be patient. At least it is not hot!!!!!!!!!!! My first was born twenty years ago in September in Florida, the hottest time of the year. When that beautiful bundle is here we all realize the wait wasn't that bad. If all else fails you could try a bikini wax I had one three hours before my daughter was born. *A word of caution when my water broke she came with it, so if you get one lay down as soon as possible.* LOL

Some do say Castor oil works. It will either kick you into labor or give you the runs...not a great alternative. From my own experience having had a few natural and a few inductions...let your body do what God intended for it to do. Oxytocin is not pleasant, is hard on your body and the baby and recovery after birth is harder vs. just letting nature take it's course. Two of my baby's were 14 and 15 days late...but sometimes I don't think the little spinners the drs. use are all that accurate when telling us when we are due. Drs. these days try to control everything...I say let your body dictate unless you or babe are in danger. Best of luck to you for a smooth, happy and loving delivery.

Honestly your body will have the ultimate decision on when your baby is ready to come out. Trust me I have 7 children. But I am also studying to be a midwife and I know a few tricks that are completely natural. Castol oil doesn't really help. What it does is makes you have diarrhea and some believe that makes you contract. Now if you roll your nipples in between your finger tips it lets off a hormone in your body that makes your utetus contract. Its the same chemical that is in Pitocin. You should know that it doesn't happen quickly so you should be patient and have your partner help you. Also it might sound nasty but if you can have your partner use his fingers deep inside of you in a sweeping motion it will scrape the membranes which could definetly make your body respond. Be careful you don't take it before your due.When I used it I had a slice of bread to dry the oil up in my mouth and a glass of orange juice. Also follow it up with a hot cup of tea. It takes a little time to work so be patient, but believe me it works.

I have used Castrol Oil my last two children. It worked for me, but be careful it will clean you out if you get too much. I took a tablespoon at a time with grape juice. I tried it slowly. If your cervix is ready it will go fast. My last two kids were very fast. I had one in 20 min. and the other was less than that after I got to the hosp.

Ok this sounds way too familiar!! With my first child 10 years ago my grandmother told me to do this. It is great if you need to be cleaned out, but as for inducing labor NO! It won't harm you in any way, it is just an old wives tale. They used to do it back in the day thinking that because you were constantly on the toilet pushing something else out that you would bring on your labor. If you still want to try it you can buy it at any drug store. Just ask for it. I have heard there are certain pressure points by your ankles that induce labor, but that could be a myth to. Ask your Dr.

Anneliese, I read in a book to rub the castrol on your stomach and drink raspberry hot tea. I tried it with my youngest and it worked for me. Good luck!

DO NOT get castor oil not onlyy will ou cramp up VIOLENTLY BUT if it gives you diarhea WHICH IT WILL it will do the same to baby. THATS VERY DANGEROUS AS THE BABY CAN ASPIRATE MECONIUM AND can cause serious complications!! I know how frustrating it can be to wait and be so uncomfortable BUT it's part of the deal!! Practice that patience youre gonna need it!

I ate caster oil and drank rasberry tea the night before my son was born. So i'm not sure if it's just an old wifes tale or if its real. But, you should drink rasberry tea too. Never hurts to try!

I tried it about that stage of my pregnancy. All it did for me was give me intense abdominal cramping ( which in theory can bring on labor ) and 2 hours of diarrea. Not fun. I still didn't go into labor for another week. You can get Castor oil at pretty much any health food store or pharmacy.

Castor Oil will make you go to the bathroom... that's about it. I know this because I did it years ago. The doctor told mom that if I cramped and had a baby then I was going to go into labor anyway... if I had a BM then I needed to do that instead.

Well I have mixed feelings, my mother tried it 35 years ago and my brother was born on my father's 35th birthday. I tried it 20 years ago and it did not work for me. It is the worst thing to take, just let this child bless you one his/her own day. Good luck!

since when was it up to the carrying mother to determine when the baby was ready to come into the world? LOL only thing i ever heard that all those things ever did was cause unnecessary pain. who really wants that?
none of it probably would've helped me anyway, i only ever dilated 4 cm. on my own. had to be stretched to get to 7. but i push those huge heads out anyway. i refused pain killers and c-sections. though, i had to be chemically induced with my 2nd, turned out he was over due by a few weeks and being blocked by the sack of the fraternal twin i must have miscarried during the 1st trimester.

I asked my doctor when i was pregnant with my first and he said it was a waist of time. The theory on how it puts you into labour is that it gives you diahrea and cramps ( some people just get the cramps) and the cramps are what are supposed to send you into labour however he said he has yet to see it work. so i would not even try it. For me walking and stresss sent me into labour when i was overdue. good luck!!

I tried that once upon a time... lol. Gross!!

What worked for me (for my second pregnancy and vaginal birth) was a "labour-inducing massage" by an RMT. I then went home and did some gardening (down on my knees) and was in labour within 24 hours. This was 10 years ago, so I can't refer you to the same RMT, but I'm sure if you ask, they'll know what to do!!

A massage sure beats ingesting horrid things!!! (and feels great even if baby isn't quite ready to arrive yet!)

If this is your first then sorry to say, it's likely to be late rather than early or even on time. The last few weeks can be tough, but just try to enjoy the sleeping through the night while you can. It will all end soon!

My Dr made me take it....I threw it up... their suggestion was to mix it in OJ or Root Beer.... But that I wouldn't drink what ever I picked for a long time.....I don't think I could drink Root Beer for 20 years after that! LOL Bottom line it sucks tastes awful and doesn't work. I walked five miles the day my son was born. That worked! What everyou do DON'T let em give you Pit ! Well unless you are having a epidural...everyone seems to be taking the easy way these days...I had 3 kids with no drugs at all.

My doctor said that castor oil is too strong. It can make some women have one or two contractions and deliver their baby in 10min.! That doesn't happen to everyne, of course.

Good grief, woman! You only have maybe a week or so left, if that! You've made it this far, let Mother Nature do her work and put the baby first! Of course you're sick of being pregnant but that is makes us as women so special. Hang in there, you'll be holding your little bundle in no time and wishing you had time to yourself again!

No it doesn't work, I tried this old wives tale when I was due for my !st baby, other than being so discusting to swollow no one told me you had to mix orange juice with it so I nearly thru up everytime I drank it, and the result a really bad case of the runs!!!!!!!!

Believe me... I definitly know what you mean! I have had 4 babies between 9lbs 2 oz and 12lbs. 9oz, I was UN-COM-FOR-TA-BLE! But while I have heard of a few people using the oil to induce labor, the docs say it is not a safe way to do it. If your in that much pain, talk to your doc about being induced early, otherwise, enjoy your last few days of peaceful (uncomfortable) sleep while you can! Your baby will come when he/she is ready!

I have given birth to four children and never tried any of the tricks or old wives' tales. Seriously if there is a problem your doctor will induce labor. I agree with all the women that say let nature take it's course. The baby will come when ready.

I tried so many things to get labor going. I was 2 days before my due date. I got things done around my housed during the day. My husband and I packed everything up that evening. We went to dinner at my favorite restaurant. Then, we walked the mall for hours. I started having contractions. We kept walking, and I had to stop and hold onto the rails. I had a banana cream pie shake from DQ. (The hospital discourages you from eating once you get there, because labor can make you throw up.) We went to the hospital at midnight.

maybe your baby isn't ready. don't force your body into something it may not be ready to do. i understand totally that you are more than ready, but remember it's about the baby now, not just you.

Please do not try any remedies...your doctor will induce labor if needed..let nature take it course. Hang in there sweetie it's all worth it in the end when you have that little precious baby in your arms.

All castor oil will do is give you the runs -- not pleasant. Ask your man for a foot massage, and make sure he rubs around your ankles. There is an acupressure spot just below your anklebone that can help induce labour.

And yes, you could also get your membranes stripped, but if you're not dilated much, it HURTS. My ob-gyn did it, and I was only 1cm dilated, and I felt like I'd been raped by a hat rack.

ask your Dr. to strip your membranes, I didn't ask for this because I did not know about it but my Dr. did this to me @ 38 weeks @ 3:30 in the afternoon & my baby was born @ 7:40pm that evening.

Nothing makes the baby come quicker. Your baby will come when he or she is ready--not when you are. Castrol oil does not work, but induces serious vomitting which can be life threatening and has put people into the hospital. Danger there is that some will classify you as taking a poison and can have effects on you later. I wouldn't recommend that.

No doctor will leave the baby in further then is safe for either of you. Typically they won't do much until you are 42 weeks. Remember that 40 weeks is a typical pregnancy. Some are lucky and go early and most are around 40.

I know you're frustrated. We all were at the time our baby was "due" but in the end once that baby is there they will be worth all the wait.

yes it does i took some the day before my son was due i took it with oj at 2 pm and had him at 930pm. 3 hours of labor and 3 pushes and there he was. and u can buy it a walmart.

Well it worked for me.... I was 40 weeks and wanted my son to come as my husband had a new job to start 2 weeks later and I rdidn't want to be home alone with a new baby.... The way ot works is that it will contract you bowls which in turn will contract your womb as they are close together. I did have a have a long hard labour as I dont think he was wanting to come out quite so soon. You will not be able to buy from chemist as they will not sell to you if you are heavily pregnant.. which was a sign to me that it could bring on labour.... i took a dose at 2pm and another at 8 pm and went into labout at 2am.... I have heard since that they dont recommend this anymore and that it can cause problems, but for me it worked.... guess you just have to make your own mind up... good luck .... and by the way I never had diahrea.....

i tried everything wif my 1rst but to no avail did any methods work wif my 2nd my family bought a trampoline so i had a few bounces on it soon after my waters broke maybe it just was time or it was the bouncing ?

I to used castor oil for my first child, for me it worked within 2 hours of using it I was in labor and delivered 5 hours later, however my daughter had her first poop inside of me, and she was in destress, and when she was delivered she had to be sucked out and put on oxygen, not what you want for an otherwise healthy baby. She is 9 now and at the age of 2 was diagnosed with athsma, the castor oil may have played a role according to her pediatrition. I used it because many family members had used it for their pregnancy and mentioned it to me because I was 7 days overdue. However I strongly advise against it, the health risks to your baby is to high.
