Today I starter interviewing babysitters for the first time in my life for my I month old baby, any suggestions about what I should keep in mind? People are always scaring me with horrible stories... Should I put cameras all over the apartment.. Help?

I agree, references are very important if you are choosing for the baby to be in your home setting. Definitely make sure the person sees this as their job and they are reliable.
For us a center works because the girls are with other children socially and more than one teacher is around at all times.
Good luck, and there are great nannys out there don't let those stories deter you.

our best sitters are the teachers we liked from the kids day care. if your baby isn't at daycare, see if any of your friends who use daycare can recommend a sitter.

Do you have a friend who you think is a great mom? Ask her if she would consider baby sitting. It is best to have a family member or someone you know personally. Also, ask people you know for recommendations. Make sure it's a licensed home day care or center.

I am also interviewing right now for a nanny for my 2 month old. References are really important. Make sure you ask them why they are leaving their current position and to ask for that person they work for as a reference. You don't want to hire someone that has been fired. for ex: they may be leaving the job b/c the family is moving or b/c they no longer need her. I called the reference for my person and she told me that I wouldn't find anyone better..thats what you want to hear. Give them a scenario and ask them what they would do. For ex: the baby is crying uncontrollable..you've tried everything but nothing is working...what would you do? Hope that helps.

The best babysitter I ever had was one that considered it like going to a regularly scheduled job. She didn't cancel at the last minute and if she needed to be away, she found a replacement for me. Even though she knew it was a job, she didn't treat the children as if it was. By that, I mean she loved and cared for them as if they were her own. References are important....don't be afraid to ask for them.
