Hi! I'm not a mom, but someone who has been living with hydrocephalus for over 50 years. I'm also the p.r. director for the Hydrocephalus Support Group, Inc., in Washington state. Our support group has been in existance for over 20 yrs. While we have members with hydrocephalus who have been living with the condition for decades, we also have parents with many years of experience. Our group's focus is on living the best life possible, rather than 'suffering' with hydrocephalus.

The challenges of living with hydrocephalus run the gammet. Some of us have had more challenges to overcome than others, but all of us agree that it is worth the fight. I will say that parents need to advocate for their child and build a team of professionals that they feel comfortable with in having frank, honest discussions with. They also need to ask hard questions and sometimes push for answers, that includes getting second or third opinions if necessary.

I will say, from first hand experience, that kids and parents living this experience have often felt isolated and without resources. That doesn't have to be the case. Personally, I found out just how NOT rare hydrocephalus is and that a lot of things that seemed to make no sense, made total sense after talking with people who had similar experiences in living with their hydrocephalus. Seeing a therapist can help with some issues, but not with others. Some you just need to talk with someone who has a shared, or similar experience with. That is where a group, like ours, can be a great help.

You should definetly get yourself a wrap, and I would also take her to a chiropractic. They can do wonders if there is a thight muscle (locked?) or a nerve that is not in place. (We call it KISS in Norway).

Hi, neha, been busy, getting ready for my mum and brother coming to see me. We are enjoying the last few days off school before they return. We are going to the beach, tomorrow, there. We all can play football or frisby, then in the afternoon swimming. Had to be very firm with shaun today keep talking like a baby, qhen i tell him off he does it more. My boys love going out in uncle roberts car, i made shaun come home in mine. He was crying most of the way home. He kept saying sorry, which helped. Ross my 10 year old is still having tics with his head and shoulders. He is very awarw of me when it happens. Did try and reasure him, he makes alot of exuses for it. I will be taking him for asess by the doctor soon. He is so athetic, and loves learning, when he is excited the tics are there. Has been at his nww school for 3 months, his old school never noticed anything. I have asked every year, if. They have noticed anything. As a mum he is different but fits in. Perfect. Hows your life? Thankyou for asking me if alls well.
