Idk lol I use the term hoodie. Baby daddy/momma drives me crazy though. I do use the term "sperm donor" but honestly- my older son's "father" is a deadbeat who has never seen or attempted to see him so that's all he is to us.

yeah, I hate both of those phrases. I just recently got remarried, my mom was very mad at me for some reason, and she told me that she thought that the only reason I got married was so that I could have a "baby daddy" I got really mad at her for saying that for 2 reasons #1. I don't talk like that, #2. I married my husband because I love him. Another thing, what ever happened to love? Now days people sleep around for recreation, they don't think about the consequences.

Well, as an L&D nurse we see a lot of women who call the biological father "baby daddy". This is to make clear that they do not necessarily have an ongoing, stable realtionship with this man. We usually refer to them as "FOB's"...Father Of Baby.

I beg to differ on that comment not all dads are trash. My son is 22 and is raising his two daughters by himself cuz the mother is the one that turned out to be trash....

No, that's a good point, Gwen. Mind you, in some circumstances, where the child was the result of a fling, the term is crude but not altogether inaccurate, as the only thing the father has actually contributed is his DNA.

Nothing against Krista...I also don't like the term sperm donor. Regardless of where my ex is now, we were (in my case) married at the time I became pregnant. That makes him more than a "sperm donor."
I don't know..it just seems like we don't care what kind of language we use anymore. I can't imagine my grandmother running around talking about her sperm donor or baby daddy! :-O

Here it is in my little world:
sweatshirt with or without a hood = sweatshirt.
sweat jacket w/ hood & a zipper = hoodie
(and the rest of the ensemble):
Sweatpants - those baggy things with elastic around the ankles
Track pants - those nylon things
Yoga pants - sweatpants that look like the elastic wore out in the ankles ('bootcut sweatpants'? really? who wears boots with sweatpants?)
......seems like they just took the 'sweat' out of the clothes and made them into 'workout gear'.
Who knew you could glamorize a sweatsuit?

"Baby daddy" basically implies that the guy was not much more than a sperm donor, and that he currently has no relationship with the mother. So it's definitely not a flattering term. I agree "my child's father" just sounds a little less Maury-esque.
I don't have any issue with "hoodie", though. It's to the point now where "hooded sweatshirt" sounds almost a bit pedantic.

I don't EVER remember calling it a hooded sweatshirt. It's always been a Hoodie to me and my family. As for 'baby daddy/momma" uech! I hate that term!! And all other Ebonics terms!! It makes a person look lazy in my opinion and it shows a lack of any kind of class.

one slang that makes my blood boil is "love you off" which is supposed to mean i love everything about you... but whatever happened to just saying "baby your amazing, i love you"?
i actually hate the term baby daddy, but i call my daughters father that once in awhile as a joke.. and we laugh about it. and people have asked him "whos yo baby mama" and hes like er.. i dont have one... she is the mother of my daughter. please speak more respectively when referring to Jessica, since that is her name"

My daughter hasn't seen her father in months, but that's what I call him, "father" or "Eric". In my opinion, "baby daddy" is just lazy grammar. Saying "my baby's father" also implies the relationship to me.
He is not dad, daddy or da-da, because he hasn't earned that relationship.

*see: my baby-daddy came home drunk last night...or my baby-daddy has no job (since these are the things I generally associate with baby-daddies as opposed to fathers, dads, and daddies)
It is also important to note that "baby-daddy" actually implies his relation to YOU not the baby.
My baby daddy, as opposed to my baby's daddy.

Melissa, no one's saying anything about the word 'daddy'.....they're discussing the slang term "baby daddy" used in place of 'my son / daughter's father'.
It's not a discussion of what your child refers to, or the title he / she knows his / her father AS. It's a discussion of the ridiculous twisting of grammatically correct language to form new (and IMO ridiculous) phrases that make the person using the term sound generally uneducated.

I use the term hoodie sometimes, but I usually just say sweater.
And the term 'babby daddy' bugs me. It seems like a term you would use to describe a deadbeat father. Why can't people just say my child's/baby's father/dad?
Also, @ Renae. 'Emo' and 'Goth' are similar, but still different. It's kind of hard to explain.

Hoodie doesn't bother me a bit but he ain't just my "baby daddy" lol. ;) As an unmarried mother I refer to their father as "my children's father" or "my hunny" or something of that nature.

how can people say that someone is trash? Ive never personally used that term, but my husband is my baby's daddy. His father, dad. pops, etc. When my husband gets home i say "theres daddy" and my son knows that term daddy. So does that make my family trash, because my husband is a "daddy". I think were taking this a bit too far, everyone has pet peeves, but twice now ive read people calling other trash. Its just not right.

Thank you for explaining. I clicked on this thread out of curiosity because I didn't know what "baby daddy" or "hoddie" meant! But now that you mention it I have heard those terms used. I recently discovered that the generation Y's version of a "gothic" (or as far as I understand it) is called an "emo". I'm not that old but clearly I'm just completely out of date.

Hoodie doesn't worry me.

Another peeve is "mommy milk" - it's BREAST milk! Even "mummy milk" couldn't save it!

lol I'm not a fan of "baby daddy" either - although I dont have a problem with "hoodie". gutter spelling also drives me nuts (eg wiv dat aks cuz) so I dont bother reading or responding to anything written like that. Sharon is right - it reaks of trash (whether they are or not) and its hard to take it seriously

I never fully understoon "baby daddy" or what it implies. Is it the babys' daddy or is he acting like a baby but he's a dad or is he your "baby" and your childs "dad"? I call my hubby "baby".
It's the same as when poeple here say "that's joke"...what does that mean?!? I feel like I'm out of touch and past it at 24yrs old :(
But yes annoying. A hoodie is a hoodie though :P

Just wanted to add as well, what ever happened to being able to say, my husband, my partner or my boyfriend? Why do you have to day baby daddy, or my child's father, unless of course you are seperated, but then can't you say my ex? I still hate baby daddy though :)

I'm not a fan of it. To me it means the father/parents are utterly trash. As in, not responible enough to be a FATHER. He's the "baby daddy" aka "sperm donor".
I don't use it politely.

I hate the term baby daddy!
I live in Texas and my sister lived with us until last summer for a whole year so she went to school here. She's only 14 and in middle school. well, quite a few girls get pregnant around here and the guys keep sleeping around and then they sit in the school bus talking about their "baby mama's" and seem to think it's cool Yuck, it's disgusting! I'm always think where the HELL are their parents?
Anyways, my brother's (20) girlfriend (15) is pregnant and she keeps referring to him as her Baby Daddy. Ugh, he's not a baby daddy, he's the father of her child! He's there for her, pays for everything... now, if he wanted nothing to do with her or the baby and things like that then i could understand.. but he's being responsible for what happened so he's being a father.
