my baby has always been a sickie baby and got told he will just grow out of it. he now stops being sick on milk feed but ow is sick on soilds. he is 8 months and has 3 jars a day at different times some i bigger than others and he still brings it back up throughout the day. we have just been giving gaviscon since me going on at one at the octor because im just at my wits end now. gaviscon thickens up milk but its the soilds his bringing up. we have also been told to give him less. i dont want to give him any more less as he wont be hardly having any food during the day. we got him weighed 2 wks ago and he was 15.5lbs at 7months 3 weeks, going again next week as worried about his weight. doctors and health vistors are meant to help you but im just getting the same old answers. please has anyone else had this problem

I have raised 6 and have 2 who adopted me, 23 grand and 2 great grand. I am no expert but I can tell you no 2 are the same whether it's eating or personallity. You named a lot of different things that you feed him maybe you should try letting him get use to one or two at a time, just because we like different things doesn't mean he's ready, his little stomach is still getting use to solids and remember his tummy is tender he doesn't need a lot of seasoning yet, you have to go slow with new food. Don't get me wrong I am a firm believer in feeding babies my father fed my son at two weeks and at 38 he hasn't stopped eating. They all gained weight at different rates despite how much they ate. Relax and go easy he'll get the hang of eating and when he's a teenager you'll wonder where he puts all the food he'll eat.

Since he's not becoming ill with formula and not with toast and jam, it's time to look into other allergies. What baby foods is he getting? Many have cross-allergens, so if he's allergic to one he may be allergic to several. It's very possible. Request allergy testing if this continues.

Another thing to think about is his activity level. Does he eat a jar of food then go on to play quite a bit? This could be why toast stays down, and formula, but not pureed food. Toast is dry and is hard to spit up. Formula is liquid and passes rather quickly through the stomach and into the duodenum, where it can't be spit up. Pureed food is neither, and sits in the stomach longer, and any pressure from playing will cause it to be spit up. So feed less of it more frequently. Instead of a full jar at a "meal" 3x per day give 1/2 jar per sitting 6x per day.

Mine was. It was milk. We switched to rice milk - soy caused too much gas. The sickies went away immediately!

my health visitor was the one who told me to give him toast and bread and jam inbetween his feeds. he isnt sick with them. i have gave him gaviscon in 1 of his bottles 2day at 12:30 and at 1 i gave him a small jar of veggies so far so good no sickness. its dinner time soon for him so i will see how he gets on as this 1 he doesnt have a milk just food, which isnt much. he has a little bit of our sunday dinner and a fruit 30 inutes later. thank you for all your advice but im going to give gaviscon a try first then next week im going to get him weighed to see if his weight is ok

Danielle, it does sound like a lot. Why not try cutting down just a little bit and see if that helps? I can't see you'd have to cut down a lot, but maybe try cutting a small amount out and see if there is an improvement?

My son has been sick since about 6 months old.. fevers every month. I kept asking and on it with the doctors...a mother knows when something isn't right.

Did the doctor say not to feed him so much? If they did, then that's your problem.

he is spitting up. he dont when he has a bottle but 30 mins later when we give him a jar he does. its alittle puddle of sick but he mite be sick about 6 times b4 his next feed. we always burp him and he always stays sitting up with me and then in his chair for about an hr before he gets fed up and i let him roll around, then still he is sick over my floor lol.he has hipp, cow and gate, organix and heinz. we tend to do our own dinner for him now and really just have the afters and veggies of the jars. i want to my health centre 2day and she said to give him gavison and to not give him too much milk and solids. his growing though i cant just cut it right down. i just dont know what to do anymore

Danielle, I am not sure it is about how much you are feeding him. When you say he is sick, is he just spitting it up, or is he actually vomiting? And is is straight after eating, or a while after? What brand baby food are you using?

You definitely need to talk to someone about this because it doesn't sound normal, but sometime knowing what questions to ask really helps. Doctors don't know everything.....

There are so many things it could be. I hope someone else here may recognise the symptoms. It sounds like some sort of intolerance or allergy to me, but I'm not an expert ;).

I changed my little girl to a Reflux formula at 5 1/2 months old, she had always been a big spewer (it was suggested I start solids at 4months by my doctor to try and help keep milk down), but the doctors told me that if it doesn't upset her when she spews and she is gaining weight then don't worry!! When I started her on solids, she still only bought the milk back up, but about a week of eating just rice cereal and pear and banana mix, she started bringing her solids up, that's when I swapped her to the Reflux formula, she has been on it for a week and already is doing heaps better! We have a check up on tuesday to check everything, but she now only has a tiny spit up after her bottles, no food comes up!! My girl is now 6 months old I have found she can't keep yoghurt down and that is it!! She will be 6months on the 29th April and weighs in at 9 1/2 kg's which I think is over 20lbs (not sure)!!

i did say could it be lactose intolerant but when he has 8oz before he goes to bed he keeps it down.so because he keeps that bottle down they said he cant be.he was on cow and gate when a baby but now his on aptamil.he has 3 bottles aday of 6oz,5oz and 8oz. he also has a jar of veggies which is quite a small jar then dinner he has all different smash, spagetthi, little sauages cut up,fish fingers or if we are out stage 2 jars.he then has a jar of fruit or yogurts but he always has a 30mins gap inbetween food. to me for a 8month old i am feeding him enough i dont really want to drop it down

Maybe he is lactose intolerant? Have you discussed that possibility with your doctor? It certainly sounds like there is something he is allergic or intolerant to, and given you were having problems with his milk (was it formula?), I am assuming he still has milk, so it could very well be that.
