Well, mine was like that, my oldest daughter's was, two of my grandchildren's were. There is no real pain for the child afterwards. It is fast and simple, out patient.

Don't get it snipped at the dentist or doctor's office. Our oldest was just snipped in an office with nothing to numb the pain and it was really bad for him for a couple weeks. Major food restrications and pain. Our second the ENT specialist did hers at the outpatient surgical place. They partially put her under and used a laser that cauterized the wound as it went. She was 100% fine that night. No pain, no food restrictions, nothing. So if you get it done, make sure they do it that way. There is no reason for the kids to have to deal with the pain.

Hi, my 4th son, who is now 3 was also born tongue tied, the doctor's also wouldn't do anything for it when he was born, but now at aged 3, it is unnoticeable, and he has no problems with his speach, my older brother was also born tongue tied and the doctor's told my mum she wouldn't be able to breast feed him because of it, my mum with alot of patience in breast feeding, proved them wrong and so did i with my 4th, my older brother never had it fixed, he is now 25 and no speech problems with him and is also un noticeable, i honestly think yo maybe worrying about something that you need not to, i think it will fix itself,i know of a few other people whose babies were born with it and it's healed itself. hope i've helped you with your concern, and good luck xx

My brother was tongue tied and it is a family trait my son inherited. We weren't able to get it clipped until he was about 18 months. He had to be put out becuase he had a mouthful of teeth otherwise they said they could have just done it in the office. He was only back there for about 10 minutes and when they let me come back they were giving him juice and he stopped crying as soon as I took him. I think the whole thing hurt me a lot more than it hurt him. He had no problems and ate and drank as if he didn't have surgery. He also was able to talk alot better after the surgery and hasn't quit since. This is a simple procedure that barely bothers the child. You have nothing to worry about. I am glad we got it taken care of.

My 9 year old son is also tongue tied. The nurses noticed it when he was born. My doctor also said not to worry about it. And although I wasn't able to nurse him he is doing just fine. And like Jo An.. he too has a beautiful singing voice.

My son is now 15, he was born with a tied tounge. We have never had any problems with it, no speech problems or anything. Good luck to you.

My daughter was born with her tongue tied. She couldn't breast feed because of it. I just got her tongue clipped about 3 months ago and she did great. They had to put her under but it literally was done in like 5 minutes. I had just left her with the doctors, got the waiting room, and sat down to eat breakfast when they came back out to tell me it was done. We went home and she was fine. She had a little white line under her tongue for a few weeks but she had no restrictions on food or drink. No pain, nothing. I would recommend doing it soon if you are because my daughter when over a year with hers and that was crucial learning how to talk time and so now we are trying to get her to talk more because she went so long without even being able to stick her tongue out so it was hard for her to even try to pronounce words. I hope this helps you out!

My 2 month old son was born tongue tied. His doctor referred us to an ear/nose/throat doctor who snipped it at our first appointment. My son was more annoyed about the doctor's fingers in his mouth than the actual procedure! He stopped crying the moment I picked him up! There was no blood, and he nursed just fine right after! There was never anything that needed to be done after. It was the simplest procedure I have ever seen!! Doc just lifted his tongue and clipped it with sissors. He told me there were no pain receptors on that piece. I wanted to just get it done so that I didn't have to worry about it affecting him later! Good luck!

My daughter was tongue tied, she was having a difficult time nursing, and losing weight, so they snipped it, they said she didn't even cry, and she was able to nurse much easier after that, and I'm assuming she wasn't in alot of pain, because she was very content as a newborn, she has no problems at all with it now.

Hi my daughter is 10 and she was born tongue tied and still is. My doctor advised me that they would not do anything for this unless it affected her speech or feeding which it never did. Hope this helps.

my child isnt tongue tied but my sister is and she is 25 they told her that as long as it doesnt bother her and doesnt mess with the way she speaks then it is fine. she just had her second child a month ago and she is also tongue tied and they told her the same thing about the baby.

My daughter is 6 now and is still tounge-tied however her doctor did not reccomend snipping it because it is not severe she speaks just fine just don't ask her to stick her tounge out... it barely goes past her lips. she has had some bleeding when she streatched it to far but that was minor ..and the doctor did say it would streach and may bleed it has only happened once or twice. oh yeah she sings like an angel too.I just wonder sometimes what would have happened if we had had it snipped ... make sure you ask lots of questions and answer the doc's as best you can...

My nephew had that but they noticed the condition when he was a week or two old. They sniped it in the doctor's office really quick and with nothing to numb it. She said he cried for a second. She did mention that if they waited til he was older, that the procedure would be more difficult or they would have to numb the tongue. Sorry I don't have more info for you.
