Hello

My son is 2months old and battles wiith making a poo. Every time it's time for a poo he pushes so hard and screams in pain and it takes him over 4 hours to do this poo most times. I am not too sure if this is constipation as when he does make a poo it is a normal consistency and a normal/fair amount.

I read in parenting books that to help we must give 3tablespoons of water, and my friend told me their paediatricians recommended a little bit of water between feeds to help. But my paediatricians told me no water whatsoever until solids

Have any of u had this and can anyone give their experience

Thank u

I don't know. I don't remember pooping problems, but my son suffered from reflux til around 6 months. Nursing was his comfort and he was on me up to several times/hour... napped on me a lot and every night til 5ish months slept upright on his belly on me while I was propped upright in my bed... 'Fun' times. lol

Yes I went to massage class with him so know all the things to do, I have him on bonnycare (herbal cramp relief) and reuteri drops for probiotic. Apparently he does suffer a little from reflux so it could be the winds he suffers from more than making the poops but what else do I give him or does it eventually disappear? The paed says its normal it's cause they don't know how to poo and they learning audit will disappear. So do I just watch while he is in pain, it doesn't feel right

Have you tried rubbing his belly and/or 'bicycling' his legs? It is possible that he has reflux? Could it just be gas pains and not actually 'trying' to poop that entire time?

Has he always been like this or is it recent? Has their been a change in formula? What DOES his doctor suggest?

Thanks dove. Friends of mine -their paed said to give a little water in between feeds and my paed said no....its weird how different it is between paeds. I just cant stand seeing my baby in so much pain he has been trying to poo since 2am today finally did one at 10h30am - 7 hours of interrupted pain is hard to witness and do nothing about it

If the poop is a normal consistency (super soft, but kind of 'formed' since he's formula fed) and a decent amount... he's not constipated. Constipation isn't about how hard it is for him to poop, but how hard the poop is.

If his doctor is saying no water and his doctor is aware of this situation.... I'd be listening to the doctor that knows your child over random women on the internet a hundred times over.

i would give him a little water to help with the constipation. It will make him poo aot easilier.
