Is it normal?

I am 37 weeks pregnant and for the past month my baby has had a bad case of the hiccups. She gets them multiple times a day and they last atleast 5-15 minutes. Everytime i go to the doctor its one of the few questions i forget to ask and today she has gotten them more than normal. I know how and why hiccups during pregnancy happen i just dont know if the amount she has is normal and if it's possibly a sign of an underlying problem she will have when she is born. Is there any other moms out there whose babies had reoccurring hiccups while they were pregnant?!? Any advice would also be very helpful.

They get the hiccups because they practice drinking the amniotic fluid --- all cool!

hiccups are actually very good for your baby it shows that their nervous system is working properly. My son would hiccup ALL the time in my tummy. When he was a newborn it would freak me out because his entire body would contract, but its all positive

yes, its quite normal, lol i remember beiongh woke up once or twice b/c my baby had the hiccups

Yep, totally normal. The hiccups will probably happen several times a day for awhile after birth too (at least that's what happened with my kids).

my son had TONS of hiccups while i was pregnant,a and i was assured it was normal. my midwife said that babies who get a lot of hiccups in the womb tend to be pukey babies but its kind of an old wives tale i think...my son never really spit up much.

its strange now though...if my son (8months) gets hiccups once, he will get them several more times throughout the day, and he's been like that since birth. like today...he woke up with hiccups and by noon, he had them another 5 times.

It is totally normal...hiccups are a way that your babies little diaphragm can strengthen and help her lungs develop :) It is a sign she is on the right track!

that makes me feel alot better. she gets them so often that i always wonder if she is going to have some kind of problem when she is born. i know hiccups are normal but i couldnt see how its normal to get them so much!

Yes!! My daughter had hiccups daily when I was pregnant, at least once a day if not more and now she is 13 wks old and still gets hiccups often. I've mentioned it to my midwife and our doctor and they both say it is normal and nothing to worry about. I've put it down to her guzzling when she drinks as sometimes it can be hours after feeds and she will get the hiccups.
