Is it normal for a almost 3 year old to not want to eat regular food?

My 33 month old refuses to eat even mashed potatoes, the only things he eats are graham crackers, animal crackers, and cheerios. He has even cut back on those things. Is there something I can do to get him to at least try something else. When I feed him baby food so that he at least has his nutrition, I have to fight the first bite in most times. Can anyone help??

Most of my family have very picky eaters and are very skinny(medical prof. always freak out about our wheights) kids, they grow on air till around 5 yr, the toddlers eat about NOTHING. We never have lots of candy, chips and sweet things, apart for fruit in the house, most of us are eating to much in later years and are normal and healthy.Golden rule: nobody forces eating and everybody will eat when he/she is hungry, as long as you can reach the food and it is mostly food that can be eaten as it is(cheese, fruit, rice cakes, viennas, left over meat balls ect.)The one that gets often colds, must drink Codliveroil in orange juice, the one that is constipated must dink casteroil in orange juice, you have a choice to start eating and drink lots of water/rooibos tea to correct it-your choice! We continue the tradition with kids to come!

my neice is going through this phase.. my aunt basically just tells her how its going down.. if you dont eat then you wont get big and be able to ride the roller coasters with daddy... and other things that she wants to do but if she doesnt eat it wont happen... she also has a blanket that she is attached to and if she doesnt eat like a big girl her blanket goes away until she is done with dinner.. they are old enough to know that they need to eat and old enough to understand some consequences.. just dont offer the snacks and get creative with what you do feed him.. cut fruit into fun shapes so they are more interesting and encourage good eating habits!
