Is it normal for my 5month old to still be waking up in the middle of the night?

I have a 5 month old and he all the sudden started waking up... I think it is his teeth.

Put baby rice cereal in his bottle before bed it will fill him up better and maybe he won't wake up.

My son, who is 7 months, just started sleeping through the night... If he goes to bed early 8 or 9pm he usually wakes once in the night. If he goes to bed at 11 he will sleep through. At the 6 month mark he started teething so was up quite a bit during the night. Is your little guy teething?

my daughter is 20 months and still doesnt sleep thro the nite she neva has!!

Very normal, many kids do this. Do you know why he is waking up? Is he getting hungry now in the middle of the night? Is he cutting teeth? Could be any number of things.

My daughter is just over 6 months and still wakes in the night at least once. The last few weeks shes been up 4/5 times though but her first tooth has just broken through so this may be why shes waking so much. I no what you mean about lack of sleep thankfully me and my partner take it in turns each night to get up with her so we mnanage to get some sleep but i'm still not used to it!!

My son didn't start sleepin through the night untill 8 months and he only did then because we did the "cry it out method." 5 months is too young for that though. Hang in there....it'll happen. Hey at least you got a two month break in there. :)

my little girl is five months as well. she sleeps through the night every once in a while. but over the past few nights she wakes up at 1 and 6. i suppose it just depends on how tired she is during the day. unfortunately all babies have to learn their own schedule, and we have to abide by it!

Yeah i found myself askin that question try puttung your baby down then at 10 11 try giving him/her a bottle. that might carry them through.

yep! Mine started doing that at exactly the same age. As others have said...you will go through many sleep phases: teething, separation anxiety, dreams, growth spurts, etc. Just when you think you have it figured out, they'll change again! :-)

he may have acid reflux or just plain gas. My son did not sleep through the nite until he was a year old and I know what you are talking about being tired!

My daughter is 6 months old and stil wakes up but it usually is just once. she drinks a bottle and goes back to sleep. she has times when she stays sleep all night it all depends what stage they are going through.

my 5 month old does and i just stick a binky in his mouth and he's good to go until 5:30-6am.

My eldest daughter has only just started sleeping through the night and she's almost two! I don't think there is much you can do except grin and bare it. If you're worried about it talk to your paediatrician.

Yes it is normal, your baby may be going thru a growth spurt and just needs to eat. My son at the moment is almost 10 weeks old and he eats alot and sleeps alot. He is still trying to work out his nights and days.

my daughter didn't sleep through the night until she was 10 months old :( but my son did it at 4 months. It just depends on the kid.

On your next Pediatrician visit, tell your doctor about your 5mths old change in sleeping habits. It can be a range of different things keeping him awake. Nothing exactly wrong. Some children develop allergies later than others, some cut teeth as this time, some are starting to become aware of their bodies and their limitations and get frustrated and fret. Their are many milestones at this age. Rolling over if he hasn't learned to completely yet and crawling are generally what they accomplish right around now and he could be learning to do that and keeping himself awake. My son starting rolling over half way at 2mths and crawling motions at 4-5mths. I didn't catch on as to why he would all of a sudden cry through the night and I caught him one night in his sleep rolling half way over and trying to crawl, then when he flopped back down it startled him awake! No worries unless the Ped. Dr. says otherwise. :)

yeah its normal. I think youve been lucky with the 2-4 months sleeping through. my daughters 7 months old and has never slept more than 5 hours at a time. It could just be thats hes going through a growth spurt or he may need an extra scoop to his bottles. It could be any number of things. But ive been told it will get better :) just hang in there

yes its normal my son is 19 an a half months old an he still goes threw stages of waking up in the middle of the night an he has been sleeping the whole night threw since he was 11 weeks old in my opionon they do it because they no you will hurry an rush to them to get them. i think they can wake up till around the age of two, i dunno if you use bed time bath an lotion, but maybe you could try that

Yes--he could be starting to teeth which would make it difficult for him to sleep at night. If there aren't any other symptoms of teething it's possible that he is just wanting more Mommy time. Try keeping him awake for longer before you put him to bed for the night, you also might have to let him learn to put himself to sleep. Good luck!!

Yea, I think it is normal. My daughter slept through the night when she was newborn, then started waking in the night. she started sleeping through the night again when she was about 6 months old. My cousin's baby didn't sleep throught the night until he was 8 or 9 months old. Kids eat more when they are growing.

Sorry but yes! Every baby is different, my lil guy did the same thing. I tried feeding him twice, an hour apart before bed and he still woke up hungry. He just isnt a heavy sleeper and ate alot. I was so jealous of my girlfriend whose baby slept through the night right away!. Some babies also have seperation anxiety and wake to see if mom is there. Also nightmares sometimes. what does he want when he wakes up?
