If he is playing I wouldnt be worried, all my kids did this because a head against a hard surface makes great noises.

I was told by the peditrician that when babies hit their heads as young infants it's a sign of intelligence! So unless he's doing it super super hard, then be proud!

It is pretty normal.. I've heard about it and seen it a lot through mom's groups... Beware of giving your child attention when he's doing it - it seems they find it entertaining if you freak out about it...
Perhaps just redirecting to another activity when he's exploring that way. :)

He does it whenever. He is not hurting himself, its kind of like he is clapping on his head. Sounds silly and looks silly but i dn't know if that was a normal thing.

I agree with Magen, I would check with your doctor. Most children do hit their heads once they realize they make noise, but it isnt constant, and normally stop once they hit it to hard and hurt themselves. If its a constant thing I would really talk to your doctor.

You should probably talk to his doctor about this. Is he hurting himself or is it just tapping? Does he do it when hes upset or frustrated? These are things your doctor will want to know. Don't wait you don't want him to hurt himself.
