I know the left side is preferred but is it harmful at all to sleep on the right?

As a nurse I can tell you that it is safe to sleep on the right side . However, the left side is preferred because the blood flow is better on that side .. The back is an absolute NO.. the right side is ok but primarily if at all possible the left side is the way to go and pillow up!!

I found sleeping on my right side most comfortable, while pregnant too. I asked my doc about it and she said it's fine. So, I sleep on my right side from 25 weeks until delivery.

I still slept on my belly right before i popped with my youngest, lol.
I dont see any harm in sleeping on whichever side makes you cozy, besides you move in your sleep anyways ya know?

In my experience, whatever position is comfortable for you at any particular time is good. If every woman, every pregnancy and just about every day of a "normal" pregnancy is different, I don't see how there can be a "recommended" stance for this. I've birthed 3 babies and each of them presented marked differences throughout the entire experience.

It's fine. I always slept on my right side (or back, big "no no") through three pregnancies. All my kids are perfect.

lying on your right side will cause supinehypo tension which is an unsafe drop in your systolice blood pressure. which could be dangerous for you and your baby. when your this far along try sleeping with a thin pillow under your belly to support it but on your left side. Lying on your back does cut off oxygen to the baby. basically you just gotta tough out the last few weeks cause you dont want to put yourself or your baby at risk for any health problems. I personally slept the last couple weeks in the recliner and got more rest there that the bed. hope this helps you and congrats on the baby.

I know that I definately did! Laying on the left side helps your digestion and circulation but that doesn't mean you can't spend any time on your right side. You need to be comfortable every once in a while!

yes, laying on either side is fine. Just don't lay on your back if you can help it

The only way you should not sleep when you're pregnant is flat on your back. The weight of your uterus compresses the blood vessels in your back that provide oxygen to your baby. Blood supply is slightly better on your left side, but there is nothing wrong with sleeping on your right! Good luck!

Hi there, I slept on my right the whole of my pregnancy, i just couldnt settle on my left and i had no problems and my baby was absolutely fine. I did ask the midwife about it at the time and i cant remember exactly what she said but it was basically not to worry.

A friend reccomended to me to try using a body pillow, laying on your side put it under your belly and between your legs (you can do the same if you have a few spare pillows but body pillow is best cos it doesnt move).

It is fine I slept on my right side for the same reason and I was pregnant with twins. The only thing the ob told me is that the left side is better for circulation but anything is better than the back.

Hi Jessica, I don't see any harm, I always slept on my right because I like to face the door & although all 4 of my children suffered problems (from club feet, kidney disease, epilepsy & anaphalapsis) NONE of these were caused by the way I laid, I was assured of that by all the professionals I spoke to, just bad luck they said. Having said that, they're all grown up now & perfect. xx good luck. xx

It is okay to sleep on ur right side. U just can't sleep on flat on ur back. U can even sleep on propped pillows if u are more comfortable that way.  I am 35 wks tomorrow. I have the same problem.

I asked my doctor the same question. He told me that it is fine to sleep on either your left or right side. His only advice was to not lay on my back very much because when you are so far along it can cause you to become light headed.

i slept on both sides. Left is the best because it provides more blood to the baby but i dont see any harm. just make sure the baby is moving like it usually does. thats what i always did.

I don't see why not. I know that it's not good to sleep on you back because it cuts off oxygen to the baby. I think sleeping on your right side would be fine.
