is my 15 week old baby advanced or do other 15 week old babys do these things?

why should somebody feel like crap just because their child is behind? and just for the record my intention wasnt and is not to make anybody who has a child that is behind feel down!!

Ok. I hear you. I am pathetic, but I did say at the end of my post that the intonation was conversational and not finger pointing, but you can think of me what you like and I will think of you what I like. Wasn't my intention to start an argument but I'm sure as time goes on you will encounter those Mums who do make comparisons with the intention of one-up-manship and then you might understand why I found your question a little unsettling. They are out there and they have the ability to make you feel like crap if your baby is a little behind their own in terms of milestones. Have a nice day.

why be offended?? yes they are babies but so what if im asking about milestones etc, how perfetic that it is bothering you. its not like im FORCING my child to do these things, nor am i even encouraging it im letting him go his own way with things....secondly what is wrong with the moms that day 'my babys doing this at this week old' there is nothing wrong with it at all.

no that wasnt me that posted anything about becoming advanced in milestones either.

Yeah Kirsty, I was a little offended. They are little babies and in the first two years of life they reach many milestones. But there is no magical age when these things will and should happen. The boundaries are large and just because one baby is doing something a little sooner than another doesn't really equate to being "advanced". So many Mums want to say "ooh, my baby is rolling over and he's only ....weeks old", don't you become one of those Mums. Did you post something in another thread about helping your baby to become advanced in his milestones (I'm sorry but I can't remember which thread or the exact wording used), because if it was you then I get the impression that advancement is important to you. If it wasn't you, then I apologise for the mistaken identity but I still believe we should just enjoy our baby's achievements for what they are and not worry too much about whether or not it is happening earlier than the "norm" (and I'd like to add that the intonation on everything I have written is certainly not nasty, just part of the conversation, so please don't feel I am standing here like a school marm pointing an accusing finger, because I am not. Sometimes I just get a bit "deep" and think a bit too much!!)

At 4 months:

Movement/Physical Development



Holds head steady, unsupported

Pushes down on legs when feet are on a hard surface

May be able to roll over from tummy to back

Can hold a toy and shake it and swing at dangling toys

Brings hands to mouth

When lying on stomach, pushes up to elbows

So I would say it is typical development....

Sorry, but at 15 weeks of age why does it matter if he is advanced? He is a baby and being physically advanced for his age is no guarantee for a successful life in other areas. I'm not trying to be nasty or anything, I just don't really see what it matters. My son was "behind" in his physical achievements as a baby and at 6 he is actually academically smart for his age. During the first two years of a baby's life the range of "normal" is very wide so there is no definite marker for when they reach a milestone. Just enjoy your baby and don't focus on "goals", enjoy each milestone as it comes but don't compare him to other babies. It isn't fair on him or any other babies you might be comparing him to.

thank you, he is on baby food and baby rice but he is under a dietician at the hosp and she advised it was okay for him to be on it as she feels he is ready from what she has seen of him x

Fairly normal though it's a bit young for baby to have solids. ;)
