is my baby too skinny?

Hi my name is maya n my baby lexi is 6 months old. the first 3 months from birth i exclusively breastfed her at 3 months i introduced formula...she is 6 months now n she i eating solids breastmilk n also formula but everyone one keeps telling me that she is too skinny 4 her age n although the doctor says she healthy im still very worried. on her last checkup she weighted 13 lbs n lately im been worried that she's losing weight she feels lighter, n people keep saying she's skinny n that thir kids were twice her size at her age n i feel like im doing something wrong cuz she's not gaining any weight sometimes she gives a lot of trouble when i try to feed her, she pushes away the bottle n cries she even spits it out sometimes n i dont kno what to do i feel so stupid n frustrated because i dont what to do....what should i do?

no i sorry i meant formula........... n the reason y im so worried is because my husband's first daughter passed away at 6 months n no one knew the cause of her death, and he said that she was skinny also

Why is your baby drinking tea? I apologize if that's a euphemism for formula, I just have never heard it called that. However if you do mean actual tea, she doesn't need that in her diet. In fact, if she is drinking tea, then that may be a reason she isn't gaining weight because it has none of the nutrients of breast milk or formula.



And I certainly wouldn't start with butter.

As long as her pediatrician says she is ok and you trust your doctor, I would try to stop worrying. However if you don't trust your pediatrician, get a second opinion from a doctor. I don't have a clue what's a healthy weight for your child and no one else here will either because (at least most of us) aren't doctors and every child is different.



What I can say is that you should never force a feeding unless the doctor (that you trust) instructs you to do so.



Ignore what other mothers say to you about being too small. Just tell them that the doc says she's fine and great things can come in small packages.

What weight did she start at? Is she growing and thriving? Is she ACTUALLY losing weight and/or actually not gaining?



13 pounds at 6 months is certainly on the light side (my son was just under 13 pounds at 2 months), but then again... I was 13 pounds at 13 months so....



I wouldn't be concerned with actual size, but if she is not gaining at all or she is losing weight... she needs another doctor to look into it.

Hold on. She is 6 months old and weighs 13 lbs? Go find yourself another pediatrician, and quickly.
