Call a local aviation school, if there is one near you. They might be a better place to start becasue they are smaller. Then gradually take trips to the airport to simply watch planes land & take-off. If it's a small, local airport, you might be able to get a "behind the scenes" tour as opposed to a larger city, international airport. If you have an air & space museum locally, it's a great place to also learn. Where are you located?

have you tried contacting the airline company (or even the head of the airport itself)and explaining the situation? sometimes they will make arrangements for you to go to the airport and see the planes, especially with your situation. i know the first time i flew i was really young but i remember an airport security manager took me for a tour of the runways and everything in one of the baggage transporters before our flight.
