hiya, may sound a little strange but when my littlie was having skin problems- mainly dry and flaking someone suggested olive oil. The result was fantastic and i still put a drop in her bath now. Hope you find something that helps!

I use melaleuca (www.melaleuca.com) "renew"... I love it. Its all natural products and very concentrated... it lasts a long time. My daughter had seborrhea on her face and cradle cap on her head and it got rid of it ( I also use the kids soap, it works really really great, and with two kids its lasted me about 4 months, and I still have a lot).

I had tried everything out there on my youngest (she has excema)....We found Cerva and this is something that works for her right now.....I just put it on her after her bath from head to toe and it really has kept it in check. But what works for one child doesn't always work fro them all....So when you find something stick with it

Or a vegetable oil product will work eg olive oil.  Could try motifying diet no MSG, dairy or wheat tend to be most common causes??????

I used johnsons and I loved it, my daughters loved it and my stepfather who has echema (or however you spell it) loved it too, it kept their skin nice and moist. But specifically for nappy rash I used a balm not a lotion, I would give you the name but it's not made any more and I can't remember it :).

Each baby is different anyway so what is good for my children might make yours burst out in a rash, try contacting a few companies and asking if they have samples and try them before buying anything, we all know as soon as baby is in the name of the product they charge extra for it!

We use plain old Vaseline - that's worked the best.  Our daughter has reacted to Burt's Bees and Johnson's.

I used Johnson baby lotion when my daughter was first born and she was fine until she reached 6 months and then she broke out with a horrible rash and within a few days it started cracking and bleeding. I took her into the doctors and they told me that there is something in johnson lotion that can cause some babies to get really dry skin.

My doctors suggested that we switch to using either Cetaphyl or Eucerin. I've tried both and have loved them. When I had my second kid, I started using Cetaphyl immediatly on him and have had no problems at all. Another thing the doctor warned about was the type of soap you use when they take baths. Cetaphyl makes a soap and the doctor said a no fragrance white dove bar was ok to use too.

My 18 month old son has dermatitis/ eczema and our pediatrician recommended we use Cera Ve, its kind of expensive, but it works great. It softens his eczema in a day or two.

I love Aquaphor also, allthough it is greasy for a little while, and it's expensive, but it works! I usually only use it on my daughter in specific dry areas, not all over her body. Otherwise I would try something organic with oatmeal in it, like possibly Aveeno?

Look on the ingredients list of any lotion - if you see any type of paraben (methyl paraben, anything with paraben in the name), don't use it; parabens have been linked with neurocognitive disorders.  I strongly suggest looking for something organic; places like Kroger and Target often carry them.  I wouldn't use Vaseline, either - Vaseline, also known as petroleum jelly, is a petroleum (as in, the stuff you put in your car) by-product.  In other posts, Burts Bees and California Baby were recommended - they're good brands you can trust and widely available.

Yeah, don't believe everything the nurse tells you either. My daughter was 2 weeks over due when she was born and they told me the same thing. I got home and lathered her with vaseline as well as baby lotion. She had no alergic response to either. Do what your heart tells you is right. If she has no reaction go with it. Try the vaseline first. No coloring, no scent. By the way, she's 16 now with no adverse effects. Nor did she then. Good Luck!

Cetaphil is the only thing that will work on extremely dry skin.  Aveeno doesn't work at all.  I've never tried auquaphor so can't comment on that.  Get the Cetaphil moturizing creme that comes in a tub.  Will be gone in a few days.  Have used it for 20 years and the only thing I found that works.  I am an arbonne user for myself and tried their baby products when my 9 year old was a baby and didn't seem to help.

The Body Shop recently launched a new line called "Buriti Baby" - beautiful products that are pediatrician approved and wonderful for their skin.  Go in and ask for a sample to try.  Also the Hemp line is excellent for eczema.

I have a son that suffers from extreme dry skin and the only thing that I have found that works on his skin is Vaseline Intensive Care Cocoa Butter Deep Conditioning lotion. You may want to ask your pediatrician first... It worked for me, but I'm no Doc!

I have two daughters with eczema and I use all aveeno products. After each bath while they are still in the water, I use the after shower/bath body oil...it's like the oil of olay in shower moisturizer, only it is more of a liquid when it comes out. I also always had an after bath lotion/massage routine. It only takes an extra 2 -3 minutes, and their skin is well moisturized afterward. Also, try to look for Creams instead of lotions...lotions contain more water.

I was wondering when I read this post because a) my mother used it on all of us when we were kids and b) it is such a popular product if it were so horrible how could they sell so much of it?  maybe it is not good for children with sensitive skin but I am glad to know someone has used it without problems since I got a ton of it at my baby shower and would hate to be able to not use any of it :)

Aveeno, aveeno, aveeno, aveeno, and more aveeno.  My son couldn't use Johnson's -- it gave him a rash.  Aveeno lotion, baby wash, etc has been a true lifesaver!

Try Arbonne's baby line, ABC..It is botanically-based with shea butter and oat to soothe skin..The lotion and baby oil is wonderful..I still use the line on my 10 year old..Why put chemicals on his skin?  It is pediatrician tested and hypoallergenic..

Any questions let me know..You need a consultant ID number to order on line.. I will give it to you if you like..You can go to to website Arbonne.com..

Pretty much ALL lotion has alcohol in it. My pedi told me to use a balm instead of lotion, since balms don't have alcohol in them. Also look for creams, as some of those don't have alcohol in them. Just read the ingredients to make sure. GL!

FWIW, I didn't use lotion on my baby for just that reason at first, but by the time she was 8 weeks old I started using baby lotion on her (Baby Bouquet - I used their balm as well), and she's had no problems. So while I'd stick with alcohol-free in the beginning, you may find once your baby is a little older that you can try other sensitive lotions and they'll be mild enough. HTH!
