Hi, I have had diabetes since the age of 17 and got pregnant at the age of 25. I had to watch what I ate and try to watch sugar intake. I have an insulin pump and that made pregnancy alot easier to control. Blood sugars adjust alot while you are pregnant. I was taking 2-3 times as much insulin as would have normally used. It tough to find the correct doses but it was alot easier with the insulin pump. I actually felt the best I ever had during my pregnancy once I got my insulin doses stable I felt soo good. It was great.

I don't know much about pre-existing diabetes, but I did develop gestational diabetes during both of my pregnancies of which I had to be on insulin. Uncontrolled diabetes can be very dangerous for a fetus and can include damage to the heart, nervous system, and can cause the baby to store the extra sugar on its shoulders and be overweight (they'll look like an American football players with shoulder pads).
I would talk to your doctor about how to regulate your diabetes, but there should be no problem with trying again. Diabetic women have babies all the time, you just have to keep your sugars under control. They will monitor you much closer the next time too. Keep in mind that the farther your pregnancy continues the "more diabetic" you'll probably become.
I'm so sorry for your loss, but try to not let it discourage you from trying again. Good luck!

Hi, my diabetes is not gestational they think i had it for a while before i got pregnant they did not say what caused me to miscarry and they wouldn't investigate because it was my first miscarriage.I take insulin 4 times a day and metformin 3 times a day. I'm just worried about it happening again i don't think i could go through it again it took them 3 weeks for them to tell me i had lost it and 3 scans. Thanks for replying.

Hi, Is your diabetes gestational, or is it something that you have even when you are not pregnant?
I had gestational diabetes during both of my pregnancies. I was very careful about what I ate and was lucky enough to be able to control my sugar with my diet. During the last pregnancy, I was pregnant with twins and it was much harder to control and I almost had to go on insulin. Did the doctors say what the cause of the first miscarriage? Was it the meds that you were on? I wouldn't think that would have been the cause.
