Our son had the same problem. It seemed to get a lot better when we changed his formula. We were told that if he went more than three-four days without a BM then we could use a glycerin suppository. It worked really quickly usually. .

Although it is not uncommon for a breastfed baby to not have a BM for a week, I would only worry due to the fact that you are using formula... I would consult your physician.. many BF babies cannot tolerate millk based formulas and have to use soy or other softer formulas as formula is more harsher on their little system... not to mention they add iron to the formula and when you are BF they get way enough iron and really dont need it added to their formula or at least a lower dose of it anyways..

Our baby had a problem with pooping too. Our Dr. said to add some Karo syurp to her formula. Also we were told to give her diluted apple juice both did the trick. I agree with Marilyn I would talk to your pediatrician.

well.. breastfed babies (just mums milk and nothing else) can go without bm for a long period of time (2 weeks, although 10 days is usually reffered as normal). if your baby is getting even one meal of formula 7 days is maximum. I know tihs because my baby has that problem (well, it's not a problem - she just uses everything). if it's problem because of formula u can make it little watery or try the thermometer trick. it works really. good luck

the thermometer thing works, or (it sounds gross) but if he farts after doing it, try spreading his butt cheeks apart LOL, I swear it makes them go. Also, try like an ounce of gerber apple/prune juice...it'll make him go in a few hours. OR, if your dr. says ok, glycerin suppositories work too.

I would call my pediatrician. Fours days is a long time for a baby. Call the md and tell him whats going on, also apple juice tends to constipate. Iam a mother of two and my son went through this as a baby. The baby can get really sick if not attended promptly. Take good care and good luck.

I am NO doctor, but I once had a similar problem with my little girl. A friend who is a labor and delivery nurse told me to pretend I was taking her temperature (rectally) and sure enough, it worked. Just lube up a rectal thermometer (we always put a little dab of vaseline or KY (which we keep just for this purpose) and insert as if you were taking temp. I think I left it in for 5 - 10 seconds and she had a bm instantly. If that doesn't work, call your pediatrician - they understand when moms worry!

when my son was about 3 months he did that. I gave him a like 1oz of apple juice mixed with 2oz warm water and he went. just a suggestion.
