Oh and as to how the baby came out and such. I was honest. It also helped explain why only women could actually have the babies physically.

Depends on how much you want him to know. When I got pregnant with my son I was doing home day care. I had a 5 year old, a 4 year old, a set of two year old twins and a 1 year old. After polling the parents for what everyone was comfortable telling the kids and what I was comfortable telling the kids we came up with this:

How did the baby get in side me?
Daddies have seeds they give them to the Mommies who have the eggs and that makes the baby inside the Mommies.
The five year old asked me 3 months later (around the 6month mark pregnancy wise) how the Daddies got the seeds inside and the answer was he had to wait till he was 10 or 11 to find out. He was a bit frustrated, but both his parents and I explained that there were some things we wanted him to wait and learn about.

A book I found absolutely useful with regards to pictures and story was How Was I Born by Lennart Nillsson and Lena Katarina Swanberg.

I generally started reading the actual words from page 3 and just gave the "Those are pictures of Daddy seeds and Mommy eggs" for the first two pages as the writing about the pictures and how the seeds and eggs interact is quite detailed.
It also has a picture of what the baby looks like every few weeks inside the womb which was fascinating to the kids in my care. It was a well perused book for the 8.3 months of my pregnancy.

Hope that helps.

I answer honestly every time. My daughter has seen a woman giving birth before and she wasn't scarred by it. She knows that babies grow in a woman's tummy and when they are ready to be born the mommy pushes the baby out of her vagina. When she finally asks HOW the baby gets in the tummy I'll be honest with her about it. Mommy had a seed in her tummy that needed help growing and Daddy helped it grow. And it turned into a baby. I always want my daughter to know she can talk to me about anything. So I'm always honest with her because that road goes both ways.

My 5-yr-old asked that when she was about 4 and even though we have answered her, she is still asking. We told her that God knew mom and dad loved eachother so he put a part of dad and a part of mom in my tummy and you grew. To answer how she was born, we told her that mom had to go to the hospital and the doctor helped take her out. Luckily she has accepted that and not wanted to know details. Since she continues to ask the question, and I'm expecting again, I'm guessing sometime in the near future she will want a better explaination than the one we gave her. Don't know what we will say when that time comes.

Although edited for a 5 yr old my step daughter was told the truth. She was told that daddy helped put the baby in my tummy cause her daddy and I love each other. When it came time to answer the question, "how did the baby come out?", I was lucky enough to have a c-section lol so as far as she is concerned you have a baby by getting your tummy operated on.

We haven't crossed that bridge yet but I know there are probably some great boks in the library that will help. I have 1 son, aged 4 1/2 and he has already asked the differences between a penis & vagina. That I answered honestly.

I told my oldest son that God put him in there to keep him safe and when he was strong enough he came out to be with the rest of us.

I may feel differently when the time comes, but I'm planning on telling Tori that Mommy and Daddy knew they were ready to have her so we got together and carefully placed her there. Any more details? Well . . . I haven't worked that out yet!!

Honestly, My husband has opted to cover this one since we have boys. I'm not sure what or even if he's covered that question specifically. I know that we told the boys that babies come from mommies tummies and daddies help the babies get in there, but that's usually where it ends. If they ask me any further I tell them that Daddy wants to be the one to tell them. I do know that my 7 year old son asked why he has little "balls" under his penis and I know that one was fielded with sheer honesty but my husband said he doesn't think that our son understood.
