Hi,

I asked a question earlier about potty training my son, and I recieved some great advice!

I now have one more question:

When you started potty training, did you keep the potty in the bathroom or leave it where the can see it??

We have a potty that plays music and talks to you - so my son likes to play with it, so I think that I should leave it in the bathroom so he knows it's not a toy, But I would like to know what you all did/do?

Thanks in advance!

I DID NOTICE THAT THERE WOULD BE A LITTLE "RELAPSE" AFTER THEY WERE TRAINED, THAT'S WHEN THE ATTITUDE OF THE HOME COMES INTO PLAY. THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE, BIG GIRLS USE THE POTTY. WE'RE THROWING AWAY THE BABY DIAPERS, ETC. REWARDS HELP LIKE AN M&M. ALSO ITS FUN TO RUN TO THE POTTY TOGETHER DOWN THE HALL, THAT TEACHES THEM TO REALIZE WHAT'S GOING TO HAPPEN, TO HURRY, AND HOLD IT, ETC. AND SIT DOWN, "WHEW, WE MADE IT!" THEY GET A KICK OUT OF MOMMY TAKING QUICK BABY STEPS TO THE POTTY, HURRY HURRY, HURRY, SAYING IT VERY HIGH PITCHED AND ANIMATED TO NOT SCARE THEM AND " LET'S GO...."

At first we had the potty in the bathroom, and my daughter never used it. So we bought one to keep in the living room where she can see it... she'll sometimes sit on it fully clothed like it's a chair, but I made it clear she's not to play with it. She likes it where it is because it reminds her to use it, and she can watch her Elmo potty DVD too.

I'm just starting with the potty training. I leave it in the living room because I try to keep him out of the bathroom since he will continually flush the toilet if he manages to get in there ;) It works though, he spends most of his time in the living room, so its always close by.

HI, I don`t know what to do. My 2 years old girl hate the potty and the toilet. She knows how to use it, but now she prefers the diaper.

The Potty is what we called the bathroom. A very special place, clean, and not a place to play. A very private and big boy or big girl thing to go and do. Teaching them modesty comes with the territory as well, good time to instill the personal aspects of themselves, without the shame or embarrassment...but private and personal...my kids used to tell me to shut the door, they didn't want anyone to watch them or laugh, etc. I remember one of my kids always hiding when he had a BM in his diaper, I think that is a natural thing and might be what makes potty training hard for some, the kids are shy about it. Teach them you respect their privacy as well as you expect yours when it's your "turn"...
I remember my girls, they fell in love with bathrooms everywhere we went. They had to check out the bathroom, they were all so amazed at the different kinds in restaraunts or at people's homes or just where ever. It was a pretty special place for them.
Never shame their mistakes, but do praise their successes. They also love to dump it themselves. Give them a stool for the sink to wash hands, and they'll learn that too. Just keep the bathroom clean, don't let it be a messy place, and you will be very successful, and instill that aspect in them. They won't want to mess in their training or pull ups, etc.

The bathroom is where you keep it as your want him to be using it where he will also use the big boy potty when he is bigger.
But it's intresting the number of parents put it where ever.

We use the attachment that goes on the toilet, makes for one less transition later on :) However if you choose to use to little potty's I would suggest that you leave it in the bathroom.

i keep it in the living room to start (we have a lot of stairs to the bathroom and the little ones don't always have time to make it) and as they get the hang of it i slowly move it back to the washroom. i don't know that i would let him play with it if it wasn't in the bathroom , but let him know he can sit on it to read or what not if he wants to. it will help him get the "feel" of the potty. good luck!

My girls both used it where ever...I started having them sit on it and do puzzles and books until they peed in it the first couple of times so that they knew it was good to pee in the potty. Good Luck!

I kept the potty in the bathroom for both of my kids. It just made sense to me. But if you need to move it around to get your little guy used to it, then do what works for you. Good luck! Oh, and just take a deep breath at set backs. Best advice I ever got about potty training: ALL kids get it eventually, there's never been a case of a kid going off to college in diapers.

I let my boys sit on it watching TV. With clothes on and with them off, if they were comfortable. The main objective was to make the potty something that they weren't afraid of. The one thing with potty training I have noticed, is that when they are ready... they are ready. My boys showed no interested for several weeks then all the sudden... BOOM, they were ready. Good Luck!!
