I just set up a 6-foot x 1.5 foot snap set pool. I don't want to have to drain the water often. Does anyone have any tips for getting the dirt out and also how do you keep the water from turning green? Thanks in advance for any advice!

I put bleach in the water every time I change the water...maybe once every three or four days, as it needs it.

Thanks, ladies! I do have a net skimmer, and the bleach is an excellent idea! How often do you add the bleach to the water? I'll definitely look into a fish tank cleaner too.

I'm not going to bash you for it...I put a few drops of bleach in my son's kiddie pool too.
I also cover it with a tarp when he's done playing..this keeps the trash out..the dogs out...and the boy out too.
Maybe look around at the pet department for fish tank cleaning supplies. They have a hose that you can suction out the tanks with...it could be used like a vacuum to clean muck from the bottom. They also sell little green nets that you could catch trash floating in the water with.

Everyone bashes me on this, but I put 2 CAP FULLS of bleach in the water, it is a miniscule amount, keeps the green out, and bugs away (won't ruin clothes or burn eyes in that amount, BTW). The dirt and whatever else, you may have to buy a butterfly net to scoop it out.

When I use my kiddy pool the water gets emptied daily. Here we have nasty amoebic meningitis which gets into dirty water along with so many other bugs...I just don't risk it with my kids. The only thing which will help keep the water sanitary for longer (maybe 2-3 dys at most) is a filter, which need regular cleaning, and/or chlorine tablets. A kiddy pool is such a small amount of water so bacteria grows much quicker than a larger pool.
