I just found out that my 5 yr old has a slight lazy eye. It isn't really noticeable, and she just got her glasses to help it get stronger. Will this ever go away? Is this something that can correct itself or will she have the glasses forever? Any insight would be helpful:)

My daughter does have Amblyopia. She is 21 now, married, college student and works with horses for a living. She was diagnosed at 5 and had to wear a patch on her good eye until she got out of elementary school. She then started to wear contacts. They will always be expensive because of her problem----but it's better than wearing glasses that the lenses are as thick as coke bottles. You couldn't notice a lazy eye problem even when she was a child. Turns out her father had the same problem.

ive had a lazy eye since i was 3 ! i am 20 now, and im wearing glasses still. Some lazy eyes do correct themselves.

She'll probably always need glasses, but it's important to treat her eye now so that she does not develop a condition called Amblyopia, where one eye is suppressed and much weaker than the other. Amblyopia can be successfully treated before the age of 8, but after that your brain is kind of hardwired, so it's difficult to treat successfully. If the "lazy eye" is only slight, then glasses should correct it and sometimes patching or visual training. Be glad you caught it when you did so she can be treated!

My son has had strabismus (lazy eye) in both eyes since he was 3 months old, has been wearing glasses since he was 7 months. The glasses help straighten out the eye, but not fully. The reason the eyes cross is because he is farsighted. He is going to have surgery next month to correct the crossing, but will still have to wear glasses since the surgery will not correct his vision. If her lazy eye is very unnoticable then there is a chance that it might correct itself. But if not, the surgery is very common. They will just loosen the tight muscle that is causing the eye to turn. She will more than likely still have to wear glasses, since her vision is the reason her eye is crossing. Ask her opthamologist about lasik if you do not want her to wear glasses. My son looks so adorable with his and people obsess over him everywhere we go, so it has become more of an ego boost than an insecurity. Good luck.

Well I have had a lazy eye since i was tow and i'm 25 now. I still have glasses but i also had eye surgery when i was tow. My son had cross eyes and he had surgey but he has glasses but no cross eyes. If her eye isn;t bad it could correct its self as long as she wears her glasses. But i'm not an expert
