Hi Erica,

My name is Claire and I have a 3 1/2 year old boy who I always put on my right hip. It seems more comfortable for me. And, I am Left Handed, so I think you're right about the non-dominate hand. I like to keep my left hand free to grab things.

I am right handed and I hold my daughter on my left hip...so that I can use my right hand to do everything else...also I feel more comfortable with her on my left side (but not sure why. and when I snuggle with my daughter she always wants to be on my left shoulder. I think the "heartbeat" thing is a very neat observation

Right handed, either hip. But I did notice when he sleeps or cuddles he wants the right side, but he likes to nurse more on the right breast first and end on the left and then pass out there....anyone else be right handed and that is their babies fav for nursing? I have faster let down ont hat side....

I know this may sound weird but I checked with my husband and sons but all three of my children I didn't carry on a hip but on my stomach, so in front. I am right handed. My husband, who is also right handed in most aspects, carries the boys on his right hip when he has a choice. If I do need to choose a side, I usually use my right hip first.

I write with my right hand. My 5 children were always carried on my left hip, no matter how much I tried to get them to sit on my right hip, from trying to give my left arm/side a break. They never sat properly or I just couldn't hold them. Makes me think my body is twisted, either beforehand or just from continual left hip use :) maybe because i'm right handed the muscles in my arm are suited for other things, it just seems to be in the way, that I feel unco. It's always easier to do things like vacuum with the child on the left as i'm right handed I have more control. I carry the washing basket on my left hip also since before I had kids. I know that when my kids were unsettled they settled better leaning on my chest listening to my heart beat, but that may be the way I "trained" them, assuming it would work it was usually the first option since they were born, I also burp on the left shoulder.
Maybe a little bit more information than asked, but sometimes other things aren't considered that might add to reason.

I'm left handed and my kids always went on my right hip. I think because I had a left shoulder injury as a child and re-injured it as a teen, my right is stronger.

Im a ambidexterous mommy and my daughter ALWAYS goes on my right hip. My husband is right handed and when he holds her, she always goes on his left.

I am right handed, but I always have my son on my right hip. In fact any time I held a child it was on my right hip, even before I had my own. It was just more comfortable and I am able to use my left and to do things.

Hi im right handed and carry on my right hip as my right arm feels stronger than my left, but as tiny babies when feeding i held them in my left arm and fed with my right hand.

Well, I'm not sure which hip my kids prefer, but I carry them on my right hip because I'm lefthanded. Daddy is righthanded and carries them on his left hip. Seems to make sense. Hope you find out your answers!

how interesting my dominant hand is right but i always carry bub on right too. my dad and brother are ambitextrous and i have always worn my watch on wrong hand and played sports and musical instruments with left hand so maybe that why i carry her that side too!! lol

I am primarily right handed when writing, but I mostly use my left hand to do other activities and chores. I have a left hip injury from while I was pregnant with my first child. I have always tried to get my girls to sit on my right him so I could use my left hand for other activities, cleaning, cooking... But they refuse. It seems akward. They rest much more naturally on my left hip, So I stopped trying to put them on my right hip.

our eldest child has slight cerebral palsy and the youngest has severe developmental delay but cannot communicate which hip they prefer (8yrs & 5yrs)

I switched my baby from one side to the other, It did not make any difference to me and she seemed to like it no matter which hip I carried her on.

Right handed. Right hip. I usually put my kids down when I need to do stuff with my hands! Neither of them have ever communicated to me if they prefer being held on a certain side... But then again, one is only 7 months old! Who knows if it's true or not. Kinda sounds like a silly book, but that's just me ;)

Left-handed, left hip. I always have done this from the time I babysat as a teenager. It just feels more natural to me. I did notice that my daughter liked to curl up in my arms with her head over my heart, so I think that she definitely preferred that side, too.

right handed and its more comfortable with them on my right hip. it actually hurts on my left hip, which sucks cause i would like to give my right side a break when there are times i have to hold 1 of them for long periods of time.

When I still had babies, 23 & 25 years ago, LOL, I held them on my left side so that I could do things with my right hand, which happens to be my dominate hand.

I am left handed but used both hips pretty much equally as I recall (it's been a while).

An interesting little piece of information about hand preference: We can inherit right-handedness but we don't actually inherit left handedness. In fact we inherit no hand preference. That is why a lot of us 'lefties' do a lot of things with our right hand. Right-handedness is the dominant gene so the person with that gene is always right handed. The person with 2 'no preference gene' could become left handed, right handed or ambidextrous. Ever notice how some kids take a while to choose left or right handedness? That's why.

The results of this question should be very interesting.

I'm right handed and carry my kids on my left hip, not because they have a preference, but because I can support them with my left arm and still have my dominate hand free.
