Hello I have an almost 16 week old, he is very very gassy. He is breastfed except for one bottle of formula before bed (he has been getting htis for a month and was gassy before so I know it's not that). I have tried looking at foods I eat etc etc and eat a very limited diet but no matter what I do he is gassy gassy gassy. He wakes up several times a night screaming not because of hungry but because of gas I do leg exercises he toots and back to sleep. It means he and I both do not get good sleeps. Oh he is on Ovol gas drops, zantac for his acid reflux and I have also tried gripe water none doing much good. I was thinking of trying the gentlease formula that's supposed to be for gassy babies, anyone tried that? If you have any other remedies I could try please share, I really want this poor little one to not have to suffer so much, thanks!

Hi! My son just turned a year old...but we have used Mylecon drops for quite some time for gas. It says it's safe for infants of all ages.  There is a dosage chart on the bottle...it has an eye-dropper so it's easy to give to baby. It REALLY helped my son and also a friend's baby with gas.  We got them at Wal-Mart...but I'm sure you can get them at any grocery store or drug store.  :)

My son used to pull his little legs up in so much pain, screaming, it was heart breaking until my health visitor recommended 'Infacol' just a few drops either in their bottle or on the tongue and it disperses the bubbles building up in their tummies.  It worked straight away, and is so gentle there is no risk of overdose!!

One day when my daughter became real gassy, my grandmother was over and she told me about an old remedy.  take a tea cup with some water in it, about 1/2 full.  Put a couple of teaspoons of baking soda in it and let it settle to the bottom.  Then get a spoon full of the water and give it to her.  She then burped and was happy as a lark.  That is my remedy for colic and gassy babies.

Milicon worked wonders on my now 3 year old, it is safe and she had to have it with almost every bottle for a month or so. Our doctor said it was just fine.

I have 6 year old triplets. And for every baby shower I attend I make sure I give the new mommy Mylicon and Dr. Browns Bottles.

My daughter went through that and we switched to Nestles Good Start. It helped some. I also found "Little Tummies" and that helped her. You can put it in his bottle that he has at night.

You can find it at any store or pharmacy.

Hope this helps

one other thing that you should try, is a tiny bit of water in a bottle. be very careful, and as soon as he starts to cough or choke stop and sit him up immediately. but the water will get in there and help to push the gas through. me and a few of my friends have had success with that. good luck. =)

My son had the same issue and the only thing that would relieve him was to fold his legs to his belly...and toot it out. I did alot of burping his back, while bouncing on the knew...and hitting his bottom while bouncing over my shoulder...then again with the little legs to his belly to squeeze the gas out. I would even lift his legs up to each side cuz the gas would be on his sides as well. Do this a few times till you get all the toots out. Then he will feel better....Hopefully

I have had 4 children.  My mother -in - law told me to put a pinch of baking soda in a 4 ounce bottle of  water or juice.  It worked and my children are 14, 19, 20, and 21.  Good luck.

We use this remedy all the time.  It is good for you.

I've never heard that one before, but it is definitely worth a shot, can it be mixed with formula or breastmilk or only water and juice?

I have the same issue with my 3 month old. Gripe water did nothing, but Mylicon drops seem to help. She still has a lot of gas, but it's not painful for her to pass anymore. I had a hard time finding it at first because it was in the regular adult gas remedy section, not the baby isle, even though it clearly says "infant" on the label. Mine also passes gas better in a seated position (swing, bouncer, etc.) and that may help with the reflux, too.

Thanks so much ladies I think I will try th gentlease first before going to soy and see if that helps, hopefully ...

I would definitely go to soy, I had to switch with both of my kids & oh my gosh it was like a had a different child each time. I also did baby sit ups with my son cause he would also get very constipated along with the gas. I gently would move him in a motion of a sit up, he would giggle every time he would come up to me. I adopted my first and my social worker was the one that turned me to soy, she said many of the kids she would visit  would have some sort of problem with the reg formula. [when you adopt u have social worker visit a couple of times after the adoption] My kids are now 11 & 12 and no problems because of switching to soy.

Hi there, My youngest is 5 months old. All of my children were very gassy but just before they went to sleep, and during the night. What i did was after the last bottle before bed, i would burb them while they were in a sitting position, then i would snuggle them up against me (so they are upright) untill they were just about to fall asleep. Then i would put them down to bed in their crib. I had a towel rolled up underneath the matress to elevate them just a wee bit. Also, during the day, i would put them on their tummy but on my lap, while rubbing their back in a circular motion. It did help. And my youngest is still a bit gassy just before bed, but now he sleeps through the night and wakes up as happy as can be! It really sucks when your young ones are fussy and you feel that you can't do anything to ease them, it will pass. I also found that Oval drops actually upset my lil ones tummies. BUT, every child is different.

Hope all goes well..

I tried infacol with him it did absolutely nothing at all, ovol seems to help him a little but still, I was just really hoping his system would mature by now, 3 months is the magic month so they say, ha~

Hi,

I don't know what's available where you are but if you can get them Infacol drops are great. They can be added to the bottle or directly into bub's mouth and they really do help avoid the gas.

My son was reflux also and I had to have him sleeping almost sitting up to avoid the acid burning and waking him.

Good luck

Here is what helped my daughter quite often... When the baby awakens due to gas, turn the clothes dryer on, allow it to get warm on top. Then place a baby blanket on top of the dryer, and the baby, tummy down on the dryer. I usually patted her backside or slowly rubbed her back also. This usually helped to soothe the tummy ache and allowed her to get her gas passed. (This is especially good for colicky babies. My pediatrician told me this trick.)

I put my baby on gentalese and it helped but now that she is eating 3 meals of baby food a day we still get some gassy nights. But trying gentalese or a soy formula might help and its worth a try.

Try burping him before feedings, i found this helpful with my son. Also check out the Milicon Drops. They are usually at rite Aid or Walmart, etc. They work really well at elimiating gas quickly. Good Luck

Positioning....

helps a lot , especially few minutes after each feed. Lay your baby on his belly in your lap andgently stroke his back.... it eases the pressure and let gas expels  easier.

a friend of mine had a silimar issue and found out that her son was allergic to the formula and the breast milk. she put her son on ALSOY formula and it made a world of differance! he is 18.5 months now and on regular milk. try that and see what happens. good luck. remember that switching any formula will take a week before the baby gets used to it so don't give up.

hi, if you don't already, i suggest you raise his mattress so he is lying on a 45 degree angle (head raised). This can easily and safely be achieved by placing a rolled up towel under his mattress. Good luck and i hope you find a solution.

I would say to change the formula ( non milk based ) Dairy is really not good for anyones digestive system and alot of infants have problems with it.  Also, some formulas are just really thick especially compared to breast milk.  I have heard that Dr.Browns bottles are an absolute miracle although I dont know this from personal experience.  Good luck.

Hi there i have a little boy who is 20 weeks old on saturday and he is also very gassy, perhaps you should have his reflux medication looked at again as my little boy also takes domperidone (not sure if thats the right spelling) but that has helped loads as it pushes the food through their intestines better. Have a word with your doctor and see what they say.
