Boy or girl? I've done a "pirate party" before where they all wore an eye patch and bandana. We played "pin the patch on the pirate", went on a "treasure hunt" by following clues, then found a "treasure chest" with their goody bags in it. The cake was a pirate ship on the ocean. Two activities were just right for 3-year olds, then presents, cake and icecream and you're done! Or you could do a "dora" party with a "map" (same kind of idea as the treasure hunt). With pin the tail on swiper, etc. What are some of their favorite things? Dinosaurs, princesses, spaceships, ponys? Hope that helps get your creative juices flowing! Happy B-day to your little one!

Bubbles .... give them paint brushes and buckets of water too. Kids love to paint with water. It dries in the sun, and they can paint again.
Beach ball and the goal of getting across the lawn and through cones ....
Collect big rocks, pine cones and such things ... glue them, paint them and make animale shapes out of them (buy googly eyes)
Air rockets ....
Let them assemble or make their own mini pizzas .... let them make their own ice cream sundays .... let them make crowns for themselves to wear .... 3's are a lot of fun to play with ... have a good time
Ohh, let go of expectations ... you can have a plan, but don't think for a second it will happen just cause you wrote it on paper ... go with the flow, laugh, enjoy

we put gold fish in a kids swimming pool and let the kids try and catch them with nets and keep one to go home with.

Thank you all these are great suggestions!! I do have a pinanta, and pin the tail on the "pony" as it is My Little Pony themed, but was trying to come up with one other fun activity!!

Can you borrow something inflatable? I'm not a fan of renting them bc of the cost. Our church has a water slide that we use every year and its always a hit. The kids are occupied and the adults are free to chat. =)
