Yes it is. My sister told me a certain amt. of time after I lost that and I can't remember what she said, but I do remember it was only about a day and a half after that I went into labor. I'll bet by the time u read this you'll already ahve had that baby! Good luck!

No, I lost my plug 3 weeks before my daughter was due she came 5 days early via c-section - breech. And it was lost about 2 weeks before I went into labor with my son. However, the fact that you are already dialated and effaced is a sign that your body is getting ready so it probably will be soon.

I lost mine at 1am and my son was born 1.20am the following morning! Everyone is different, you just need to watch the programme 'One born every minute' to know that! Good luck.

I have been an OB nurse for 19 yrs. When you lose your plug has no bearing on when you will go into labor. Sorry....

Since you are 2 1/2 centimeters and have lost your plug full active labor could be days to at least a week away.

I think you are confusing your water breaking with the mucous plug. 2 different things. The mucous plug is in the cervix, the water is the bag around the baby. If THAT breaks, yes there is a concern of infection if the baby is not born in 24 hours. Not the plug. Some women lose the plug minutes before labor, others lose it 1 month before labor. The water breaking means you ARE in labor with or without contractions.

Hopefully you are in the hospital having your baby by now. With our youngest son, I was dreaming I was dreaming I was in labor. When I woke up....which happened to be in the middle of a labor pain, my legs were pulled up and I was pushing....smile I got up and went to the bathroom and lost my 'plug'. Of course, I was already in labor and called the hospital....they said come on in and a few hours later our youngest son was born.

I delivered 2 wks ago and lost mine just before my water broke after I arrived at the hospital when I knew I was in active labor. I would say it is different for every woman and every pregnancy. With my first child, my mucus plug also came out just before I delivered....so be ready and good luck!

I lost mine with my first and 10 minutes later I was in labor. I don't remember with my second. I think it was over a long peroid of time with my second.

If it has been more then 24 hrs since you lost your mucus plug and you have not started in labor, go to hospital now before you get an infection.

To help start your labor you can drink a1/4 c(2 ounces) of castor oil, this will cause you to move your bowels and free up some room for baby to move down into the birth canal.

Yes! Labor is imminent but you can go from 2 hours to 2 days to 2 weeks more!! It's just the last sign as the cervix prepares to deliver your baby! Good luck, don't overdue it and hope and pray everything goes well.

I only remember loosing mine with one of my sons at 2am??I was full term with him. I rang my sister and I went into labor with him that day, good luck

Sometimes. Although, with my last child, I lost my plug at 33 weeks and he wasn't born until 37 weeks. My plug never reformed.

Well, it is a step in the right direction, but who knows. With my first I lost it a couple days before, with my second I lost it during labor. And with both I didn't dilate at all before active labor started. Could be anytime, could be a few weeks. Best thing to do, relax, relax, relax, and enjoy the quiet. My third will be here in the next few weeks too, so I am doing the same.

I always thought it was till my fourth child! I lost the plug and waited..nothing! When I next had an appointment (3 days later) the doctor told me that as the cervix dilates the plug comes loose and drops out, but then the body replaces it in time. I ended up having four 'shows' in two weeks before going into labour on my due day. BTW, congrat, hope it all goes easy for you and you are soon embracing a new little person!

Losing that plug means things are happening :) but every woman is different. These measurements can also vary slightly, and your labor can progress quickly or slowly. There are many variables. I think it's best to change your focus to celebrating your last precious moments of life as you know it, because I'd bet there will be certain things you miss, and certain things that were easier when you were pregnant.



You can have a honeymoon of sorts with your sweetheart...get a prenatal massage...and just nest a bit. Make and freeze some meals and desserts so that you dont have to cook when you're sore and tired.



You're probably a few days out...but do what you can to keep your mind off of when that baby is coming so that you're not continually disappointed.

I lost my mucus plug about a month before..I ended up having a c-section at 39 weeks and never had a contraction to speak of.. So no good answer. Sorry!

It took over two weeks after I lost mine, I think it can be up to a month after for some people though. Good luck when it does happen for you :) Fingers crossed that its sooner than later x

I lost my mucus plug well over a month before I had either of my girls. I was dilated to 3 cm for so long with my first girl she had a bruise on the back of her head the shape of my cervix dilation, exactly 3 cm.



Gear up for the big event but don't count on it being sooner rather than later.

Usually labor comes within a week. But when I lost mine with my first child, it was still about 2 weeks before true labor hit.

I lost my plug at 6 in the morning on a Sunday and my son was born Monday morning (although by c-section) so for me it was within a about a day. Good luck! Hope it goes quickly and all goes well.

My cousin lost her plug a month before her son was born. It just depends on your body and she had a very hard labour so it isn't true for everyone that it makes it easier. I didn't loose mine plus the nurse broke my water and I had a very easy delivery. Good luck!

kind of... it's not a 'by hours now' kind of indication, but usually you will go into labor within 2 or three weeks. It's like the wind that blows in the storm, so to speak.... it does sound like it'll be sooner than 2 or 3 weeks though, especially if you're already 2.5 cm dilated and mostly effaced, so get ready and pack your bag, momma!

Well, your body is certainly getting ready for the big day. The more dilating, and mucous lost, and effacing your baby and body does now, the better the labor will be....at least shorter....it will have less work to do.

maybe. But like moms have said, when you go, you go. Being dilated and effaced and loosing your plug all happen before labor- but that can be soon or..... well.... baby could be two weeks late! Good luck!

It depends. I lost mine at 8 months and didn't have Gabby until 42 weeks. I had contractions and was dilated to 2 for a week before the drs induced me to speed up my labor. Something i would not suggest, inductions are horrible!

How far along are you? Kate is rgith, it can grow back. Often if you are close to the end, it might just be within a week or 2. I lost my plug over a weeks time, and delivered about 1 week from the original start of losing it. Good luck!

Sometimes yes and sometimes no. Your mucus plug can also regenerate (grow back). Some women lose their mucus plug a few hours or days before labor, some lose it weeks to months before.
