This is my 3rd pregnancy and I've had LOTS of braxton hicks contractions from being about 3 or 4 months pregnant. Has anyone else experienced this? Does it seem to make the birth any easier? I'm due to have an elective c-section in 3 weeks, but am nervous about going into spontaneous labour before - my husband is convinced it won't be long! Any knowledge/experience would be appreciated, thank you! xx

I started have braxton around four months. About a week before I went into labor I was having them every half hour in the evenings. When I went into labor, my water broke and 24 hours later still no baby (and no epidural too!). I had to have a c-section. I have to say I am really torn for my next one. I don't want another long labor, but a c-section is really tough. I couldn't sit up in bed without my husbands help for a good week and a half. I'm sure everybody is different, buy my experience sucked. I had no problem bonding with baby, it was just the pain that was awful. And also, I was taking percocet, which was then given to my baby though my milk. I didn't think about it because I was drugged up. She would sleep 7-8 hours every night, and most of the day. A long story made short...everybody is different, but my recovery sucked. And ended up infected, so maybe that was some of the added pain. I hope all of this didn't sound too awful.

Thanks ladies! I'll just have to wait and see I guess! What happens will happen!

I had the same thing with my son-my second. I went through a weekend of pretty consistent contractions while I was working. Three twelve-hour over-night shifts where I did sit. They would stop when I sleep. I went in for a stress-test Monday morning and of course had not one contraction. I had the doctor check me and not surprisingly, I was 4-5. I ended up going into labor the next morning and had my son 5 weeks early. He was VBAC. He was nice and healthy-little. He was going to come home on time but he was jaundice. That was caused from the RH factor. Couple days under the bili-lights and he was good to go! If you get into a good pattern like I did-make a call and have a stress test at least. I could feel myself dialating with them and if you pay attention and feel that sensation, get your doctor to check you. You could easily be going into labor. Good luck!

I had braxton hicks all through both of my pregnancies. They were both less than twelve hours long and I only pushed four times with my daughter and twice with my son. Oh and both kids were born on exactly their due dates. So I personally think it helped make my labors easier.

Congrats and I hope everything works out the way you want it!

I had almost constant contractions in the last 3 months of pregnancy w/ my twins... and I was induced. They were a semi-emergency c-section and my son was a scheduled c-section (VBAC not allowed where I live).
