Maple syrup is a purer form of sugar but it is still sugar. Children are inundated with sugar once they hit the social ages and my personal opinion is that the longer you can delay things like butter and sugar, the better. I did not give either one of my boys juice or chocolate or candy of any sort until 18 months to 2 years and it sure does not seem like it's made a big difference because once they get the taste for it, it's an uphill battle. I am happy I delayed the introduction of these things, although it is harder with the second.

I don't know if this is the'correct' answer or not but I felt bad that you had no replies so....I think 2-3years. I have two boys ages 6yr and almost 4yrs and I babysit out of my home. The little girl that I care for does not get syrup at my home yet and she turned 2 last week. I think I waited so long because it's so rich. I was a no sugar freak with my first. I think when they can manage the mess is when you know. It drips and is sticky and you think you had it cleaned until something is stuck to the floor or table two hours later. I'm not sure but I don' think there is a age on it like with honey is there? I know honey is none til 2.

Maple syrup is ok about 6 months. But yes Never Never Never give a baby honey. My mother in law gave my son some on his pacifier and within two weeks he was on a resporator. He had infantile botulism. Hes fine now but it was touch and go. That was 20 years ago.

i think that you're thinking of honey as the one you shouldn't give before a certain age. maple syrup is okay. when i worked at a daycare center, we gave babies under the age of one who were eating table food waffles and french toast sticks with syrup at breakfast.

After six months for chocolate, why not maple syrup? Well the purists would say 12 months!!
