it can last for quite a while. i think i bled for a month w/the first one and two months w/the second one. if you're breastfeeding, it will cut down the time as that helps the uterus clear out quicker. just be sure that you don't have a fever as it would indicate an infection. call your doctor if you get more concerned.

I just had my babe last week and the dr. said if I was soaking a pad in an hour regularly, had fevers, or passed clots the size of golf balls then I should come in.

I know for me i kept bleeding fro like 5 weeks but it was only like spotting type blood from weeks 3-5 so i would say it is normal as long as it is not heavy. If you have any questions like this you can always call your dr's office and one of the nurses could answer anything.

May be a gross question... but i'm curious

Hi Brittny
My son is now 4 months old and I also have a 10 year old. I stopped bleeding quite soon after my first child but with my second I bled for 6 weeks before this calmed down then I took a normal period. I was quite worried about this but was told this was normal.

Yes. As the bleeding slows down it changes from red to a brown colored. The flow slows down tremendously to more of an ooze. This can last up to six weeks after. I hope this has helped you.

It can take up to 6 weeks for the bleeding to stop completely. Consider it pay back for not having your period for 9 months. You should only be concerned if the bleeding gets heavy again, changes color or has a bad odor. The more you rest and less heavy lifting you do the sooner it will stop.

bleeding up to your 6 week check up is normal... Some times you will stop the after birth bleeding shortly (1/2 or more days) and then start your actual period all before your 6 week check up after that time your periods should start to return to your normal cycle, As we know all women are different so some will stop bleeding and not bleed again untill there next period in about 28 days or so.... Only time you need to be worried is if you are filling a pad in an hour, then you should call your dr right away.. Congrats on your new baby

Not to scare you in any way but it's possible to bleed up to a year after giving birth.

You will bleed a while. Shouldn't be too long though. If you are concerned however, call your doctor. Some people will bleed for a few days, some a few weeks and there are some who do not bleed at all.
If you are uncomfortable (like it's painful or feels like cramps), you have clots bigger that a quarter (you will notice them if they are bigger) or it only gets heavier, see you doctor. They may tell you it's nothing and you shouldn't be concerned. But it's always better safe than sorry.
Congratulations on your new baby boy!

up to 6 weeks sometimes with streaking alittle longer, your body is healing. as long as it is not heavy, lighter than a normal period and tapiering off by the week, if not seek your doctors attention.

I had a c-section and i was bleeding for 2 1/2 months, i would say if you are concerned you should make a phone call to your doctor. You normally have like a check up a month or two for yourself after you have a baby. Might be something to check on when you go. :-) (p.s. thats not a gross question dont be shy :-) )

Most common is 6 weeks. But be careful, if you are sexually active during this time. As you will most likely have a cycle during it. So unless you want another one, use protection.

I didn't stop bleeding until 8 weeks after my csection delivery. I asked my obstetrician at my post birth visit and she said it was perfectly normal. I thought I would never stop bleeding but it eventually did.

Yes absolutely normal, i know one lady who did for 10 weeks, I would suggest though if there is any pain, abnormal discharge, fever or continues for a long period of time see your doctor
