Maybe someone can help me out here that are pregnant. I'm pregnant with my third boy and have had severe acid reflex. Never really had with my other children, but is there anything I can take other then tums that is safe for the baby and myself???

i had it throughout my two pregnancies. TUMS are the best, I pretty much lived on them, and crackers. Decrease the amount of anything acidic in your diet, or olny have them when you know that you will not be taking a nap at anytime. NO ROLAIDS!!! You have to be very careful on the medications that you take during pregancy cuz what goes in can affect the baby. Call the motherisk hotline if you are concerned with anything that you are taking to make sure that it is safe and the amount of which you can take for it to be safe.

I use Young Living Essential Oils...Lemon Oil. It works wonders. I am currently 7 months pregnant and had been throwing up nightly because of the acid reflux before starting the oil. (FYI Tums and Rolaids will help to subside the acid reflux but will actually make it worse...this information was give to me by my midwife)

Hi I just had my baby about 5 weeks ago and I also had a lot of heart burn. I called my nurses line that we have as a benefit at work and spoke to my doctor both said any of the heartburn meds over the counter are vert safe. Also try not to drink whil you eat (water can cause the acid to occur) drink 30 minutes after you eat and before.
Hope it helps

I found taking apple cider vinegar pills helped. It sounds crazy but digestion is slowed down and the acid does not work well enough. All the other meds slow downt the acid even more causeing rebond reflux. so a little more acid helped and did not give me the rebound. It is natural so it does not hurt the baby. Hope this helps

I had the worst reflux with both my kids. The only thing that helped was sleeping upright in a recliner chair and drinking milk. I would get up in the middle of the night to just take a sip of milk and then go back to bed. I was going through 1-2 gallons of milk a week. The weirdest thing was with all the milk I was drinking, I couldn't eat ice cream, it made it 100 times worse.
I didnt take the time to read through all the other replies but wanted to jump in and say PRILOSEC OTC!!! I am also on my 3rd child and had no major heartburn or anything with my first two. My 3rd however, I barely gained 10 lbs in the first 6 months due to my lack of eating because it made me so miserable. Water gave me acid reflux!! I went through many different antacids and other remedies and finally found PRILOSEC OTC to be my absolute savior!!! Its a 14 day cycle, however, my OB okayed for me to continue taking it beyond the 14 days if needed. I now can enjoy everything that I frowned upon before! Good luck to you!!

I had terrible heart burn for my whole pregnancy...my doctor told me to try tums...they would only work for 30 mins or so....then she told me to try Zantac. It worked wonders. I used to just take it twice a day, everyday for my last trimester to stay on top of it. I would definetly talk with your doctor before doing anything like this though.

I have severe acid reflux in general & when I was pregnant it was so much worse. After 6 months of misery my ob finally prescribed me omeprazole which is just the fance version of prilosec over the counter. you can also take tagament otc. They are perfectly safe for you & baby. Hope you get some relief soon.

When I was pregnant with my 2nd child I had horrible acid reflux finally my doctor sent me for an ultra sound and we found out that I had gallbladder stones so 1 month after i gave birth I had it taken out and with my next 2 pregnancies had very mild reflux and then I could use the tums
I had heard before that chewing gum may work, so I thought I'd try it, when nothing else seemed to have worked. Minty flavored gum is my fav. but it can ruin the taste of your food, so I decided to try Juicy Fruit gum before and after eating a meal and it worked great.( the only thing is one of my twin girls now loves juicy fruit gum. not much of a drawback though for the relief I felt).Cheap and effective, for me anyways. Good Luck!

Hi Jodi, I lived on Zantac, I started taking the 75s in my second trimester and moved up to the 150s by the third trimester, they really really worked well and fast. Not to mention, you don't chew them, just swallow, so you don't need to worry about the taste!
This seems to be a common problem in pregnancy and it seems to depend on the person what the cure is. When I was pregnant with my first son I drank milk and it fixed the problem. With my second son I are peppermints and drank caffeine-free Pepsi. Good Luck! Hope you and baby are both well!! :)

Zantac is perfectly safe! I lived on it through my third pregnancy...also something else that worked was when my heartburn was most severe...I drank alittle bit of creamer. Strange as it may sound...it works. As far as heartburn causing lots of hair...my colby came out almost bald...lol THere are stronger meds you can take but they have to come thru your ob

Papya Enzyme from the natural medicine or healthfood store. They have some with a minty flavor or with papya I like the papya. There natrual and safe and they work. I only had it with one pregancy and it was my boy. They will give you heart ache later in years.

Im pretty sure it was pepcid ac, but i had asked for something.( my doc).. from about month 4 on.. i had heartburn the whole time I tried the milk ..it calmed it a little... and even bread gave me heartburn. It was the only thing that really worked, and i took it religiously. :) Good luck. Im not sure if the old wives tale is really true but mine came out with a LOT of hair.
