Membrane stretching?

I had this done for both children, both times it hurt like hell!!!! I did have both my children within a few days, but wasn't asked whether I wanted it done or not, the Dr. just did it.

I had it done and it didnt hurt to much, nothing umbearable anyway. I lost my mucus plug within hours and then my waters broke 6 hours after having it. I would suggest it to anyone. Dont worry about it bein painful, its nothing on labour.

I had a difficult pregnancy with my daughter, and had my membranes stretched 6 different times by my OB. The first time it was just uncomfortable, after that it just hurt. I still had to be induced and delivered my daughter at 43 weeks. Apparently if it is going to work it will work the first or 2nd time it is done, and it only works in about half of the women that have it done. I wouldn't worry too much about it though. Odds are it will just be uncomfortable for you, and if it triggers your labour, then that is a bonus anyway :)

I am 38 weeks right now and actually just had a sweep and stretch done 3 days ago. It was quite uncomfortable but no where near as uncomfortable as what we are in for. I am so done with this pregnacy too. So far I have experienced a few more braxton hicks contractions which have been a little stronger than the previous ones and saw some mucas come out which is a good sign. Good luck!!!!!

I have had it done at 39 weeks. It wasnt painful just uncomfortable. I think it is different for every person. It will work on some people and not on others. It didnt work for me i was 6 days late with my daughter. But if you are at the breaking point I would say go ahead and do it, I mean you eventually have to go into labor and deliver your baby and that is PAINFUL to say the least, so doing a membrane sweep will be a peice of cake!

I had mine done twice when i was pregnant with my youngest. It was a bit uncomfortable, but not painful. It didn't bring on labour tho, i had to have my waters broken in the end (14 days overdue!)
I think it's a bit of a hit and miss thing....some people find it painful, some people don't. Some people it brings on labour, others it doesn't.
For me, i was willing to try anything by that point! lol! :)

i had it done with my 3rd at 38 weeks, it did nothing but cause me major discomfort, i delivered 3 days overdue, naturally. i went into labour about 10 minutes after doing the wii fit hoola hoop challange, it hurt too, but not nearly as bad!

My membranes were swept w/o my consent and it hurt terribly. It was like someone had knifed my cervix. There was a LOT of self-control on my part to not kick my craptastic OB in her head.

I had it done, it was very uncomfortable (I have a tilted uterus, which made for a lot of probing), and it did absolutely nothing. I had it done at 38weeks and I delivered at 41, the only thing that guarantees delivery is induction or c-section...they USUALLY wont do that unless you or the baby are in distress or you hit 42weeks





I had it done 2 times, they wanted to do it a 3rd and I told them to bite me!

I had my membranes swept and yes it is uncomfortable and hurts a lil but what is a little pain if its goin to get that baby out lol...and for me I went into labor that night and was saved from having to be induced so I would def do it again!

I have heard it can be uncomfortable,and you may spot some afterwards. But I've also heard good things about it. Many women I've talked to have gone into labor less than 48 hours after having their OB or Midwife doing one of these. I'd say if you're that miserable,go for it!
