Menstruating and Nursing

Thank you everyone. I have started drinking the mother's milk tea again. I have also just nursed more frequently. I only noticed a change in supply because my son needed to nurse more frequently at night. But since I have begun nursing more during the day, he has slept better. I sure was hoping to have a little more time free of the monthly visitor. :)

I have always started again and had no problems with milk supply or nursing.  If you sense there may be, there is an herbal tea called Mothers Milk that is really good.  Good Luck

I got mine back at around 5 months as well, and I didn't have a huge decrease in supply, but when I felt like it was low, I drank the Mother's Milk Tea, took Fenugreek and another thing you could try is pumping. I would sit and pump for 15 minutes each night before I went to bed, around 11 just to tell my body to make more, even if I didn't get anything while pumping, I was sending the message that I needed to produce more. You could just pump for awhile after you nurse a couple times a day to get your body going, thinking it needs to make more. Or just add an extra feeding the evening somewhere. Just think, supply and demand! Good luck!

Hi Sarah,  My moon cycle just started last week for the first time.  My son is 8 months old.  I did not notice a change in my milk at all.  I find it strange that there would be a change in yours.  This is my third child and I breast fed the other 2 until they were 2.  Are you finding less or are you engorged.

mine started 2mnts after for d first n also d second........trs no diff its still d same quality n quantity.

Hi, Yes I have experienced this with all 4 of my children... (3 yr old, almost 2yr old and 5 1/2 month old twins) It seems around the time I start back up again I am no longer making any extra milk and have times in the evening when I need to supplement with my frozen milk. I have tried the fenugreek pills and the mothers milk tea, which have both worked for me. If you are a tea drinker, the tea is awesome because you don't smell like a pancake like you do with the capsules. hope this helps. Chrissy

I've heard that this can happen to some moms and it's usually only for the duration of your period with supply returning to normal afterward. You could try the Mothers Milk tea or Motherlove More Milk Plus tablets while it's an issue and see if it makes a difference. A great website to refer to is www.kellymom.com. In the meantime try not to stress out about it. :)

Hi, I have four children and have nursed them all. - You should make sure that you are drinking enough water. At least 8 glasses a day and limit caffine as it will dehydrate you.  Many nursing mothers swear by Fenugreek suppliments or tea.  However the science is not clear that if it truely is the Fenugreek or the extra fluid.  I think that if it helps you relax and makes you feel as if you are doing something to boost milk supply then it is worth the try.  You could also try a nursing holiday, ie do nothing all day except nurse.  It's a supply and demand system.

There shouldn't be any change except maybe in the taste.  I got my period back after six weeks (!)  with my daughter and nothing changed,  My son is five months and no return yet, thank goodness :)
