I am considering up grading to a larger vehicle, something with 3 rows of seats. I am trying to decide which would be a more practical vehicle a Mini Van or an SUV. Any advice on either type of vehicle and what features are good or bad would be very helpful.

We have both and I HATE driving the SUV. It have the third row ect, but the "big" kids climb over the seats to get in the back b/c of the LATCH connection on the infant seats in the 2nd row. I like the van's middle isle so much better and the automatic doors are super!!!!

I have a mini van and I like it. I used to drive an SUV until it flipped on me. Never again. The van I have is by Honda and has some type of device that keeps it from flipping. Also great for hauling teenagers, groceries, football/baseball gear, etc.

I have an SUV, but it is a big one. I have a Nissan Armanda with 3rd row that folds down completely flat. It has a DVD player and rear ac/heat controls.....I love it. I can fit strollers and car seats....and even go to the grocery store and load the back.

Hope this helps!!

Mini van! I have a SUV, a B;azer and we had a 3rd ro installed to fit all our kids and I HATE it! We have no room, and it is so hard to reach to get every one's seat belts and car seats done. I have to do my 8 year old's seatbelt for him b/c he can't reach it b/c the carseat for the baby is in the way. We have no room to put stuff either. We have to get a trailer to tow just to go to the family cabin for the weekend. My hubby will not get a mini van, so I am stuck, but if you have a choice make your life easier and get one!

I have a Saturn Outlook, like the GMC Acadia or Chevy Traverse, and I LOVE IT!! (I admit I am not a fan of minivans). I have a friend who has an Odyssey and we compared gas mileage and we average about the same (it says 16/24, but driving down to Florida from NJ with the a/c and DVD and radio going 85ish, we averaged about 20mpg). It's got great cargo room. I can fit a stroller laying down flat behind the third row. I've never seen another SUV other than a Suburban do that. Third row folded flat has more cargo room than a Tahoe. I got the 8 passenger, but it's also available as a 7 passenger with the second row having captain's seats like a minivan. I don't mind the bench seat in the 2nd row because the seats fold and slide forward for easy access to the third row, which I do use often because I baby sit my niece and have 4 kids in the car almost every day. The second row also slides forward if you need more room in the third row, and the seats recline. The third row is a real third row and even grown ups can sit there unlike my mom's Volvo XC90 whose 3rd row was a joke. The best part is I can sit in it and drive it comfortably (I'm 5'3") and so can my husband, who is 6'4". When he drives it, he doesn't even need to slide the seat all the way back, which works great when another grown-up needs to sit behind him. I hear they are running great deals on them these days because GM is having financial troubles so you might be able to get a nice deal on one! Good luck :)

I have a Ford Windstar right now and I had an Aerostar before. I loved that Aerostar. It was an XLT and it was HUGE. I have 4 kids and we had room for all of the kids and all of their STUFF. We lost it in a flood. :-( Now we're a little cramped in the Windstar but it's doable. I have looked at SUVs and they are so nice, but I just don't think we could go on a long trip in one. They have plenty of room for the people, but you have to consider how many long trips you take and how much you'll have to take with you. All of our family is out of state so we do a lot of road trips. If you're a soccer mom and just want to cart everyone around town (or you have fewer kids), an SUV might work for you. I've often wondered if an SUV might be easier to PARK.

I also have a Honda Odyssey and it is awesome. The DVD player is super handy and the third row folds down into the floor, so if you need to put a lot of stuff in the back it's totally handy. I have an '04 and the one thing they have changed on the newer ones, which I wish I had, was that the side windows rolls down. Other than that, it is a great vehicle! My sister has an SUV, and honestly, I like my minvan better, it's just more convenient!

We have a kia rondo that has third row seating that folds out where the trunk is, it gets great gas milage,a lmost 30 miles to the gallon. I only have 2 kids though, this car seats 7 but not if you had 4 there would be no trunk. we used to have a minivan but wanted to get something that didn't cost $80 a tank. If you have to get a bigger car I would recomend the kia van, we rented it on vacation and it got great gas milage and fit 5 adults and 2 kids comfortably. minivans are easily acessibe, have a lot more room and there are some hybrids.

I too have a minivan (Dodge Caravan). My uncle bought it used then put a lot of miles on it for work then we got it from him for ridiculously cheap. I L-O-V-E it!! LOL. It has over 215,000 miles on it and is still kickin! I like being able to get kids in the 3rd row without having to flip up seats or have them crawl over. I have the 2nd row as a bench. To me that is easier than captain's chairs because if I need to help strap one in the back then I don't have to climb in and then to the back. I can just reach back from the passenger side. I babysit and it's very easy to accomodate the extra kids and stroller, etc. I love my van. Wish I could afford a new one that had the DVD player and stuff. But for right now I'm good with what I have. I hope that thing lasts me awhile longer!!

Yes, I do travel ALOT! We go to the river almost every weekend 6 months out of the year and my husband is in school so 1 week a month we are out of town in a hotel. So space for all our stuff is another one of my big needs right now. With a 2 1/2 & 6 month old, we don't travel light. Plus we are considering making baby # 3 soon and so the choice of vehicle will be for future needs as well!

One of my friends has an SUV, I have a minivan. After watching her with all her kids packed into it and seeing mine with lots of room, plus all our room for ALL the luggage and extra space for toys, etc (that all kids need on long road trips) mini van all the way. =) I never even considered an SUV after seeing my mom struggling to get all my kids in the back of hers too. It's just easier access with a mini van, especially when their small.

Mini Van all the way...

I have had both...I actually have a Explorer with the 3rd row now. I like it ok, it serves its purpose and was a deal, but...

I misssssssssssssssssss my mini van.

It had so much more room...I could walk all the way to the back while my husband was driving (we went to disney world...it was great)

When we can I would love to have another van!

Alot of mini vans have DVD players already in them!

We have a Honda Odyssey. I absolutely love it. I say it is my Cadillac. We have had friends drive it and say if they had know a van would be like this they would have bought it. Easy access in and out. The back row will fold completely flat. I never thought I would get a DVD, but it has come in handy on long trips.
