I have been there. I have 4 kids, and my oldest is a 4 year old boy. He had no interest in potty training at all. I tried everything from treats, special rewards, stickers, and anything else you can think of. I even tried to force it, and that did not work either. Once i let it alone, it got better. But we was 3 1/2 when he was potty trained. So my advice is give it more time. If he is only 2, most kids dont potty train until 2 1/2, so he might be interested then. Let your son decided when he is ready, not you.

my mom used to run a toddler program at a private school and she would potty train all of her little boys in her class, what worked best for her was get super exicted about it and what she liked to call "sink the boats" you put 2 or 3 cheerios in the toliet and have your son, well sink the boats hahaha! All the little boys in her class thought it was a game. they loved it!
hope it helps... i have a 3 month old little boy so i will have to face the potty training soon!

we did a reward chart for my son. everytime he went potty he earned a sticker after he earned a certain amount of stickers he could get a toy.. he loved thomas so he would get a toy train. after while it just became a habit to go potty and we were able to stop the stickers.

try making a game out of it...put some kind of round cereal like cheerios in the toilet & tell him to see if he could ring it...that is what my babysitter told me when I was goig through potty training w/ my son & for a whole week of pottying we went to the $ tree! I know it was bribe but he was almost three & I just had a baby so diapers were expensive!

The cheerios thing also worked with my little cousin, we had him potty trained at 2 1/2 yrs old..bc the cheerios made it fun for him, we made it a game to see if he could hit the cheerios in the toilet seat, the praised him for using the "big boy potty". Soon, he realized he liked the good praises more than hitting the cheerios and started using the toilet on his own!! i would try the cheerios for sure!

I am pregnant with my first now so I don't have too much experience with it, but my sister used to put cherios in the toilet and make a game out of it by trying to get him to pee on them. It seemed to work really well for him.

Well...as for me...what I did was...I put some BUBBLES inside the potty with good smell of course...then my children used to like it even when they are not about to use it.

My son is also 2.5yrs and i tried many times to get him trained. 2 days ago he came to me with his wet diaper off and a clean pair of underwear and he hasn't had an accident yet! It's been a full 2 days and every time he goes potty he gets a mini egg for his treat. I used stickers the last 3 times i tried training and it didn't work great and now this seems to be it. I also used panty liners on him at one point and it worked some what but then he just didn't care anymore and wanted a diaper. I also explained to him that he was a big boy and his little sister was a baby and she needed diapers(she is now 7 months)He says it over and over all by himself. The only thing i find he isn't doing is pooping in the potty but it's one little hurdle at a time and it's only been 2 days. I think when they are ready they will let you know for sure, just like mine did. I feel kind of foolish for pushing it so much before because i now see he wasn't ready.
If you get him trained before the trip he may regress because there is a change in events. I might suggest to wait until the trip is done adn your lives are back to normal.
Good luck!

Valentine... its my 1st post here, 'n i jumped on it to post cos i went thro the same phase with my son.
We just potty trained my 21/2 yr old 3 weeks ago... I too wished there was a miracle solution... phew but no..
patience was the only key... we gave 4 complete days totally on him... he was off his pants, no diaper during day no matter what...
1st day was tough... we used to run him to potty every 30min , we were successful only twice... but every time he sat on the potty seat, we would sing n dance for him(yes v truly did :))... 'n gave him chocolate treat each time...
2nd day he would say pee pee as he would get the treat... but atleast it made him sit on the potty chair
3rd day onwards it was magical... he started telling us when he was ready to go...
he still has accidents... but thats ok, we never shout at him even if he forgets to tell us sometimes, b'se i have heard it might turn them off to switch back to diapers...
'n oh yes we had to be totally patient which was the toughest part for me with another 2 month old baby on my side
Good luck with ur potty training..

No pants, pull-ups, underwear or diapers whenever you're at home. If he plays in his room a lot, put his potty in there. If he's hanging out in the living room with you, put it there. I would call it a miracle since my son was trained in less than a week! & his dad was very surprised because when he came home from his few weeks of studying abroad there weren't diapers to change all day =)

Though I do NOT have a boy I have helped train many. A few suggestions are offer him a goodie weather it bea 99 cent toy or not also when daddy and mommy go potty show him make excitement, gives him incentive. As well you can put lil fruits like cherries and get him to aim at it I know sounds obnoxious and weird but childrens attention span is so short. ALSO lastly if daddy is around daddy should be teaching him not mommy. He will learn much more from seein daddy and daddy showing him. Good luck! Also remin him other boys have big boy underware. Good Luck
