So about a week ago I went to have my IUD removed and my doctor couldn't find my strings so she told me I would have to have it surgically removed. I called the specialist office and she told me that I would be given no anesthetic or anything. She said that oh, he'll find them. I had an x-ray done because I was having really bad cramping on my left side..I still am and it showed my IUD wayyyyy to the left by my hip bone. I'm freaking out here. It was the most painful thing I have ever felt getting it put in and now they want to dig in my insides to find these god damn strings. WTF Has anyone else gone threw this?

K maybe I should have added some more info. My family doctor looked for those strings for a good 15 mins. She pulled up my cervix, rotated it..stuck this little instrument into it and nothing and due to it being on my left side and having really bad cramps, I'm going to feel him pull it out. Annnnd it wasn't the doctor that said "oh, he'll find them" it was the receptionist. I wouldn't have to pay, I live in Canada lol

Not to sound like a smart ass here but he's a doctor...he knows what he's doing or he wouldn't be in practice. I have an IUD too and when put it in, it was pretty bad, but they used local anesthesia. When you go for your appointment ask about your options if you're really uncomfortable w/ just local. You may end up having to pay out of pocket to be put to sleep but maybe it's worth it if you're really freaked out! Regardless good luck. I know I need to get mine out soon too since my 5 years is just around the corner and the last time I was at the gyno they couldn't see my strings either...yikes!

Havent gone through it and won't. Does sound painful and you need to get it done. It could cause worst problems in the future if you leave it in
