Yes, Samantha that is true. I worked for WIC for almost 4 yrs. and it really depends on the bid between the companies that the state uses. I am from MS and they are using Enfamil. Now some special formulas that are for special need child are Similac products but they have to be ordered by the doctor and shipped to the WIC center that the parent will be picking up at and they are just sending enough for that child to last about 3 months.

I have lived in both Wisconsin and Iowa. Wisconsin gives Nestle Good Start and Iowa gives Enfamil.

In Illinois, the state contract changed in Feb of 2008 from Similac to Enfamil products. A doctor's prescription is allowed for medically prescribed formulas; however, Similac Advance and Carnation Good Start are not included.

I believe in Wisconsin, Carnation Good Start got a similar kind of contract written. . .

I also believe a mom should not give up her breastfeeding efforts, even if the duration is only for the time she is home on maternity leave. WIC employees usually have gone through some sort of breastfeeding peer counselor program (and have probably breastfed their children, too), so if you have questions, ask ladies!

I live in Colorado, they give Enfamil Lipil. If the baby does not do well with Lipil, your docter can write a note for another kind, but it still has to be made by Enfamil.

Similac Advanced-Texas; however I do know that my son was on Nutramigen for the first part of his life (6-7months). As long as you get a written prescription from your pediatrician, wic can provide this to you as well.

have you gotten a doctors note stating that your child can not use that i know that that is what they do in mn if your child can not use that formula than wic has to honor the doctors request of whick to use, but they ask you to try it first to make sure that it works for them

I am from Michigan I get WIC and out state provides Enfamil formula. My son needed a special kind because he had colic, so I had to get a note from my doctor so they could approve me for the Enfamil Nutramigen. The WIC is very helpful especially in the first few months but now my son is getting to the point where he going through a can of formula every three days and we only get eight cans a month. It sucks because his formula is so expensive!!!

I know the feeling! WIC in PA offered Similac with my son now with my daughter I can only get Good Start. Not even a doctor's script could get me anything else. She reject the good start for the longest time! And it doesnt help when she was born the hospital was giving her Similac.

I am in Germany, but I get it through the Air Force base here.  We get to choose either Similac Advance, Good Start or Enfamil.  But, the WIC here is so much different than it was in the states, so I am not sure if they just have their own standards because we are going through the base or if they follow a state.

MN also gets bids every couple years and goes with what is cheaper. Right now it's Similac Advanced but a year or two ago it was Enfamil. They'll also give you a different kind if your doc gives you a "prescription" for it.

I live in Indiana, and was on WIC with my first child,we had a hard time getting her to take formula ok (I couldn't breastfeed due to lack of milk production). We went through several different kinds and finally ended up on an organic soy formula. I think it depends on what your child can tolerate here.

I havne't been on wic for five years now, but here in IL they let me try a few different formulas til i found one tha worked with my daughter. I breast fed for the first three months, so when i switched to formula, she had awful reactions and constipation. They gave me samples and guidance on what would work best. I can't for the life of me remember which one Iended up chosing, but i know it wasn't a cheap formula, because it was "as close to breast milk as a processed drink could be" or so they claimed.
