Morning Sickness & Amount of Hair on Newborn

I read a brief on a small study done that suggests mom who suffered from morning sickness delivered babies with a head full of hair whereas mothers who did not suffer morning sickness delivered babies either bald or with little hair.

I'm curious to see within COM what the verdict is.

I had zero morning sickess and my little guy was born with just a wee bit of hair.

I had zero morning sickness with my daughter....full head of hair. I was sick almost the entire pregnancy with my son AND had awful acid reflux....full head of hair. So who knows:)

the "old wives' tale" that has passed through generations in my family actually has nothing to do with morning sickness. In my culture, they say the more HEARTBURN mom has during pregnancy, the more hair baby will have on his/her birth day =)

Well, I had really bad morning sickness with my oldest (who is now 15yrs old) and he was born with not quite a full head of hear, but at least he wasn't bald. Then with my now 14yr old I didn't have bad morning sickness. I just felt really sick without the vomiting and she was practically bald. Finally, with my now 2 1/2yr old again I didn't get sick unless I drank Lactaid (which is how we found out I was no longer lactose intolerant) and she not only had a really full head of hear, but she also had hair all over her body including little tufts of black hair on her ears.

These are all myths! With my first pregnancy just about anything gave me heartburn - even water! My son had almost no hair! It's all old wives tale, that started back in the days, before fetuses could be looked at with scans. Women tried to make all kinds of conclusions, to get rid of some of the uncertainty surrounding their preganancies. Such as that the shape of your tummy determines the sex of the child. Such nonsense!

Well Maggie I have 4 children the first I had morning sickness from 6 weeks to 16 weeks and he was born with very blonde fluff and not much of it ,the 2nd I was not sick at all and he was born with a mane of jet black hair, number 3 i was not sick at all and she had a head full of blonde curls lots of it and number 4 I was not sick and he was as bald as a badger as they say.I always though it was said that the more hair your baby was delivered with the more heart burn you suffered from with my 2nd and 3rd I had shares in the mylanta company nearly and they were my two hairy bubs

I had really bad morning sickness (practically bedridden until 17 weeks) and my daughter had hardly any hair. And I had quite a bit of heartburn with that pregnancy too.

I would think it's more genetic - my mum had no morning sickness at all with any of her pregnancies but my sister who has fair hair was born with hardly any and I with my dark hair had heaps (as did my father and brother - and we all look alike). My daughter didn't inherit my hair - she's got the fair hair so I don't think it would have mattered much if I had morning sickness or not, she was going to come into the world practically bald just like her father, my sister and her two daughters all did. That gene was decided on the moment my egg was fertilised and I'm not sure how having morning sickness or heartburn could change that.

Well I had zero morning sickness but my babay was full of hair...really FULL. My mom also had zero morning sickness when she was pregnant with me and my sisiter. However my sister had no hair when she was morning (thank god she had some later) and I had a full set of hair when I was born. I think its genetic. I did hear that children born with full hair would give the mother heartburn during their third trimester. This appears quite accurate based on my own experience and others (based on coversations)

hi..i dont know about it scientifically, but as I experienced, at the 5th month to 7th month of pregnancy I always had a feeling that something is stuck in my neck. My mom and other old ladies used to say, that time the hair is grown. My son born with good hair.

I was very ill up until about 20 weeks and then still woozy until my baby was born - with very little hair! I don't think the study is widely applicable...

I was really sick for the first six months with my daughter, and she had just a fine peach fuzz. In fact her hair never really came in until almost a year old! My son on the other hand had a full head of hair, and I wasn't nearly as sick with him.

I never had any kind of sickness during pregnancy (in the morning or any other hour of the day), yet my daughter was born with beautiful long curly hair and never had any symptoms of infantile hair loss either.

I nearly died of nausea until about 16 weeks, and my son had a full head of dark hair when he was born. I think it's nonsense. They still can't, in this modern day and age, really determine the cause of morning sickness.

I had Hyperemesis Gravidirum with both of my pregnancies (*lost* 30 lbs with each one). My son was born with a full head of thick, dark hair. My daughter was born with a bit of wispy red hair (she's almost 3 and it's just finally coming in thicker!). So at least as far as I'm concerned, this myth is busted. Depends on the kiddo, not on the morning sickness, I say :-)

i had severe morning sickness for the first 4 months and heartburn that i thought would set my chest on fire through the whole pregnancy..I think I should have bought stock in tums because i swear I kept them in business..lol..My little bundle of joy was born with a full head of hair, and hair on her back, ears, forehead..ect..it has drastically fallen off and out but it was there..very dark and strong for about the first 6 weeks..but yes yes yes..mine had hair and I had the sickness...

Wow....this is a topic I have much experience!! I was preggers with twins and I had such bad morning sickness that I had to be medicated. From morning to night I was vomitting no matter where I was, and not to mention the horrible heart burn. This went on up until I delivered at 38wks. In fact I even vomitted twice on the table while I was delivering and you guest it!!!..................My girls had a TON of hair!!!

I'm thinking their may be some truth to that old wives tale. :-)

It wasn't morning sickness - it was HEARTBURN. Subtle but important difference. I believe it said both are due to a slightly higher testosterone level. I had only mild morning sickness, usually only if I let myself get hungry, and my son had a lot of hair when he was born and it never fell out! It kept growing and getting thicker until we had it cut at about 6 months old.

I didn't have much morning sickness at all and both of my boys had lots of hair. My first child had his first hair cut at 6 months and my second at 3 months. The story I hear is that if you have heartburn your baby will have lots of hair. Now I had heartburn/Reflux real bad when I was pregnant. However, my sister in law did too and her girls had very little hair.

So who knows!
