Morning Sickness & Amount of Hair on Newborn

I read a brief on a small study done that suggests mom who suffered from morning sickness delivered babies with a head full of hair whereas mothers who did not suffer morning sickness delivered babies either bald or with little hair.

I'm curious to see within COM what the verdict is.

I had zero morning sickess and my little guy was born with just a wee bit of hair.

i didnt have any morning sickness thank god!! although the smell of kebabs did make me feel a little queasy!!!! and my son was born with a full head of black hair!!! i think it's a load of rubbish to be honest... what has hair got to do with whether you're sick or not! hehe

I didn't have any morning sickness but baby had lots of hair (born 6 weeks premature). in Finland we have a saying / belief that if mother suffers from heartburn during pregnancy will have baby with hair! And this is true in my case! :)

Not the case for either one of my kids. With my daughter, I had such horrible morning sickness I actually LOST 20 lbs. She had very little hair. With my son, I was just peachy...and eating peaches now that memories are coming back...and he had quite a mop of hair on his big head!

Interesting study.

Well I don't know if it's true or not, I can only go by my personal experience.I had no morning sickness with either of my kids and both were bald as cue balls. My daughter had all-day sickness for 4 1/2 months and heartburn that required medication throughout her whole pregnancy and her baby had a lot of hair.

the child I had with the most hair was my third and youngest; and I had no morning sickness during that pregnancy.

I don't know if its been studied, probably just what they call one of those old wivers tails. LOL! I personally really don't think the hair has anything to do with sickness or heartburn. :-) God Bless all you wondeful moms!

I had morning sickness (actually food advetsions) for about a month. I only got sick when my fiancé cooked, I don't know if that counts. Lol. My baby girl came out with a full head of jet black hair.

I had the exact opposite happen. My daughter had a head full of hair and I never had even a little bit of morning sickness. My son on the other hand barely had any hair and I was sick as a dog constantly. My son is 20 months old and still doesn't have much more hair than he had when he was born.

I was sick the whole 9 months and had heartburn and was sure my son would have alot of hair and when he was born he had very little hair. So I think the study is wrong.

You are right Abbie, I heard that heartburn caused lots of hair, thats what my grandma told me. Don't know where she heard that one but the only time I've ever had heartburn was during my pregnacy. Not sure about the hair, first time I heard it was on here, I just commented on being sick for nine months and my daughter having alot of hair, coincidence?

[deleted account]

My son was born with so much hair.....hate to tell you I never had any morning sickness. Maybe a little heartburn at the end of my pregnancy.

I have never heard it phrased as morning sickness having to do with hair. I have heard heart burn. My son had a FULL HEAD OF HAIR!!! Infact he has never lost his hair. I had heart burn constanly but I never had morning sickness! I threw up 2 times in my pregnancy, both times from a fish sandwich!

this is totally false about the hair. i had m/s up through my 6th month, & heartburn so bad that it turned into acid reflux & my son barely had any hair at all, actually he just turned 6months & his hair is just now starting to come in. the thing about morning sickness/ heartburn & the amount of hair a baby will have is just an old wives tale

I disagree. My sistr had the wprst morning sickness. She couldn't keep anything down and had to drink ensure just to get some nutrition and my neice barely had fuzz!

I had morning sickness for the whole nine months with my daughter and she was born with alot of hair which ended up being beautiful curls, when I was out and about alot of people commented on her hair saying she looked like Shirley Temple.

With both my boys I had morning sickness (it should be called anytime, anywhere sickness) for the entire pregnancy, and one was bald and the other had a head full of hair.

I had no morning sick, I mean none, with all 3 of my girls. The first had a full head of hair...I mean FULL and has since had long and thick hear that makes her appear older. The other two have more "normal" heads of hair, quite a bit thinner.

I had no sickness with my first and he had a full head of hair. By the time he was 1 he had long curly hair. I was slightly sick with my second. She had hardly any hair. I was worried she'd never get hair. It took her awhile to get longer hair.

I had no morning sickness and my lil guy was born with a head full of black hair. At almost 3 he gets his hair cut on a regular basis and has for well over a year now.

with all my 4 i had interdigestion and they all had hair but not morning sickness, this is the "old wives tale". maybe it was right

I had morning sickness (morning, noon, and night) and my child had a head full of hair! LOL. I also think that if your mother experienced morning sickness then you will most likely have it too. My mother had morning sickness with all of her children (7 in all).

I don't buy it. My daughter had a head full of hair and the only time I vomited during my pregnancy was one morning when I took too many vitamins too fast. I WOULD however believe that genetics plays a factor in morning sickness. My mom and grandma did not have morning sickness, nor did I or my sister.

I think its safe to say that like most 'old wives tales' its just not true.
Like heartburn, morning sickness is to do with your hormones and nothing to do with hair.
Heartburn is the same. Large amounts of certain hormones cause heartburn.

I personally had terrible morning sickness (it's a lie about being in the morning!!) almost 24 hrs a day with both of my pregnancies. My son was born with no hair and didn't start growing proper hair till he was nearly 18 months. My daughter however was born with a decent amount of hair, and now has gorgeous curly locks at 2 & 1/2.

I think it's just an old wives tale to try and keep some mothers a little more sane!

I also had terrible heartburn throughout my pregnancy with both of them so I think that myth can also be blown out the water!

Not much morning sickness. Terrible heartburn last 2 months. So bad I had to sleep angled up. My daughter had more hair on her head than I thought possible. Hit or miss I say

I only had a little bit of morning sickness for the first couple of months and my daughter was born with a head full of hair. There is also the wives tale is that if your baby has hair you must have suffered from heartburn/ indigestion but i didn't have a problem with that either.

it all depends on genes. i had no morning sickness or heartburn and my daughter had a full head of hair and it was pretty long.

I have also heard that mum's that have severe heartburn have babies with a full head of hair. I had both extreme morning/all day sickness and bad heartburn and my little girl was born with a full head of hair. They even told me at the 34 week ultrasound that she had heaps of hair.

I had absolutely NO morning sickness with either son (or afternoon or evening sickness for that matter) and BOTH were born with full heads of hair. The one with a full head of dark hair was not too surprising but the one with a full head of golden blond hair was a bit of a surprise! No heartburn either, except for the one day I overdid it on jalapenos and red pepper!

I heard about this too but with heartburn instead of morning sickness.... I had the worst heartburn when I was pregnant and my son had alot of hair.... but as to your question, I also had morning sickness for 6 months!!! With my first daughter I only had sickness for the first trimester and the heartburn that I had with her did not compare to what I had with my son and she had very little hair for about the first two years of her life!

Both mine were little baldies, hardly a wisp on their heads! However, with my daughter I had no sickness at all and with my son I was as sick as a parrot. Go figure.

[deleted account]

Not true had morning sickness for nine months on my first she was as bald till 2years old.lol

No sickness on my second full head of hair.

Also if you have heartburn bad the say this about the baby being born with a full head of hair.:-)& i had heartburn very bad on my first child ,none on my second

So i think this myth is BUSTED lol.

lol..i wouldn't rely too much on that theory,lol...

People also think that if you have really bad heartburn then you child will have a headful of hair. I had really bad heartburn in the last month and my daughter had the normal amount of hair..

I think it is all just conicidence.

From what I've heard, this "old wive's tale" actually could have some truth, in that the hormone assosiated with hair growth can also cause nausea.

However, both my girls were born with almost the same amount of hair, which was very very little, and the first I had NO morning sickness, and the second I was sick as a dog the first 4 months.

I had such bad morning sickness they had to deliver one of my kids prematurely for it (at -34 pounds for me). I did have it will all of them. And they were all extremely hairy little buggars.
