my son is nearly 7 weeks old and sleeps in a bassinet in my bedroom. i am curious to find out when other moms have moved their children into his/her own room if you have your child sleeping in the same room with you. I am no rush to do this but i also dont want to wait too long either. i am sure no matter what time i do this my son will adjust (and me too!). he has never slept in his crib. i have let him lie down in it if i am in his room putting away laundry etc. i am returning back to work in 4 weeks so i was thinking of getting him to take naps in his crib while i have the opportunity to be home with him during the day because once i return to work he will be going to the babysitter's house.

please share your thoughts, opinions, experiences etc.

thanks for all the replies! thank you for sharing about your experiences, it has definitely helped me and given me a better perspective on the whole thing. i think for now, im just going to introduce my son to his crib by getting him to take naps there and continue to have him sleep in our room. i think we will all know when it is time for him to officially move into his own room and if anything at least until he outgrows his bassinet, lol!

My daughter moved into her own room between 6-8wks og age. She was getting too big for her bassinet so I started putting her in her cot for her daytime naps. Once both of us (bub and me) were used to that then we started her in there overnight too. She actually started sleeping much better in her own room which was also nice :)

Moving your son into his own room has to be something that you are all (you, partner and baby) ready for. For us, we had our son in our room until he was 6 months old. First 3 months he was in a bassinet next to my side of the bed. From 3-6 months we brought the crib into our room. It was only when we noticed that our sleep noises were waking the baby that we decided it was time. We were ready anyways, tired of always having to creep quietly to bed every night lol Plus, we just knew it was time and we were ready. Now, don't get me wrong, that first few nights he was in his own room I slept with the monitor in my hand next to my ear just about all night long lol It wasn't easy but we adjusted quickly. Introducing your son to the crib at nap time is a good idea. Also, if you put something in the crib like a shirt you've worn, laid flat underneath the baby, that may help ease him into it because he will smell your scent. We also got one of those light machines that plays lullabys and puts shapes and stars on the ceiling....he liked that, still does :) Good luck Momma! Beautiful baby, by the way! We have that same bouncer, and the swing. The bouncer comes in handy when Mommy needs a shower! Set the bouncer on the floor in the bathroom, turn on the activity bar and enjoy your shower :)

i moved my son into his own room at about 4 1/2 months and he did fine.....i moved him because he was wakin up alot at night and i thought it was from me moving so much when i was sleeping.....and about 2 weeks after he went to his own room he started to sleep through the night........but you have to be ready for the change....i think that the baby will do fine with whatever you choose, but starting him just at nap time will get him used to the feel of sleeping in that bed and also used to wakin up in his room......good luck

Both my children stayed in out room until they were 18 months old. First in a bassinett and then in a cot (crib). I had no problems transferring them to their own rooms. I really enjoyed having them in the bedroom with me, it's lovely to wake to a smiling happy baby in the mornings.

Well, mine were always in their crib and when they were big enough to climb out they came into our bed. I would put them back in and they would come back into mine. I even sad forget it and went to sleep in my daughters bed, guess what yup she came back into hers with me. Night light time. What I am getting at is that you put them in and they will come back, I gave up and let her and eventually she grew out of it and then stayed in her own bed. Life has a way of moving too fast, so take it slow and move into the crib and the rest will just happen

All three of our went into their own rooms when they came home from the hospital. I am a very light sleeper and ever movement or grunt woke me up.

Great idea to let him start napping in there. I started my son in his own room around 3 months old. He did fine.

Hi Monica

It's so hard to tell when a baby is ready or mommy might be ready. With my first it was about 2 months and with my second baby our crib had a bassinet that was make for the crib so we left him in at about 3 weeks. But I also had a bed in the room that I would sleep on while nursing him. Maybe place him for naps during the day time so he gets use to the crib and keep him still with you at nights if that's what you want to do. Or by the time you go back to work he might be in crib all together,

This is such a hard question because it really is personal choice.

I hope this helped.

Hi! With my first we moved him to his crib/own room very early--around 6 weeks old. We couldn't sleep b/c of all the noise he was making (not crying, just movement). With our second, she stayed in the bassinet in our room until about 6 months. Our third stayed in the bassinet for 5.5 months in our room. Really, they ended up in bed with us at some point during the night and not in their bassinet :). What I have read says that it is easier to change where they are sleeping prior to their reaching 6 months of age as that is when their patterns start to get more set. Don't know if that is right or not, but by switching by 6 months it was an easy transition all three times for us. Good luck!
