Does anyone have any experience with snoring youngsters...some people say that its normal for a child to snore once in awhile like when they have a cold but not on a regular basis...I've heard other reports that he may need his tonsils removed or have a sleep study done...just wondering if anyone else here has any stories to share...my son snores like his calling the cows home...and I will probably have him take part of a sleep study.

Tracy, Good luck and I wish you all the best and I hope you are able to get the answers and help you need for your son.    I know it made a world of difference for him and us.

the ENT is a Ear nose and throat Doc and my Son had the same issuse we had his adnoids out when he was 18 months after a sleep study and then his tonsils when he was 3 it helped a lot.  I also noticed that he used to cough everytime he ran and i thought he had asma but after we got the tonsils out he doesnt' do it anymore.  The results we so good that my husband decided to have his tonsils out too and it made all the difference for him too!

My oldest started going thru all of that at age 2 also.  Go with your gut.  We did have a sleep test done,  when he was 4 and there are alot of wires and electrodes so it can be a bit scarey looking and can be uncomfortable to sleep.  But it can show if your child has sleep issues other than snoring.  So again go with your gut.  Our son was not hitting REM  according to his test.  If nothing else that explained to me why he could barely make it through the day even though he appeared to sleep through the night.   We finally had his tonsils and adnoids out in Oct.  (age 6).  I talked to our doc and she refered us to and ENT spec.  and when he looked at his throat he asked me all the questions I had been asking docs for years.  All I had to do was answer yes or no( I wanted to cry because I didnt think I was ever going to find a doctor who would listen to me and I was starting to question my own judgement.)    The night we got him home he slept through the night with his mouth closed( the first time since he was 2).  He rarely snores now and his eyes are so clear.  His behavior and listening skills have improved tremendously because he is truly getting sleep now.  He was already an amazing little guy he is just able to stay that way all day now.   Have you already talked to your Doc or an ENT?     Good luck and take care.

My oldest son-who is 7-had his tonsils out when he was 6. When he went for his regular checkup, the doctor noticed how large his tonsils were...but they were infected, just naturally large. I started describing how he would act some nights and how he was constantly sleeping and snoring. So, she said I could go to ENT or sleep study but that the ENT would probably want to see the results of the sleep study. So we had one done and then followed up with the ENT. He had his tonsils and adenoids removed and has been great ever since.

Take him to see and ENT, my daughter would snore so loud that I thought it was my husband and then would wake up gasping for air.  She ended up having to have her tonsils & adenoids out.  And what a tremendous difference it has made in her sleeping!  Good Luck!
