It takes time for them to adjust to the new routine. I know for myself I prepare my daughter every morning as we ready to go to school, nursery school, by saying: Let's get our outfit on and brush our teeth. Today is the day we learn how to count and play. Then I usually add in something silly that helps with the transition. We also have our minnie mouse, her safety net so to say, that we place in her backpack as soon as we exit the car so she knows it there if she needs it.

Give him time. After about 2 weeks they get used to it and settle down.

Don't be so concerned about it. Our 3 year olds are also just starting in their Pre-K class. The teacher let us know that of 14 students this week, every single one was fussy and crying often. They do adjust, but it takes time.
