My 4 year old keeps lying about all sorts. The lies are getting more extravigant & I can't tell any more when he's telling the truth.

When he gets caught out he throws a massive tantrum. No punishment seems to work. I've tried the naughty step, sending him to his room, explaining about why lying is wrong. He just keeps telling lies. Its got worse since starting school. The school don't know when to believe him. He blames his younger brother for anything that he gets caught doing. Please help if anyone has any good advice to get him to stop. Thanks

No, thanks for that. I have asked a couple of times when its a bad one like 'dads been hit by a car & is in heaven' told to aunty last week!!!?? He just says he doesn't know why. I'll keeps trying to steer him away from the lies. He & his brother generally appear to get on well? So who knows

Have you talked to him about why he thinks he has to lie? Maybe he is doing it for attention,  negetive attention (being in trouble) is still attention. I only say this because my oldest son did the same thing for years, we didn't understand at all at first. We found out he was jealous of his brother and for some reason that was his way of letting us know (as if we had forgotten) that he was here...He did stop, but we do still question him at times if he is lying or not...Sorry if that isn't too much help
