My 6 month old fell out of her crib on the lowest setting

She won't stop trying to climb out. What do I do? Should I get rid of her crib and keep her in her play pen for as long as I can?

Several of the net things have been recalled because babies got caught in them. The best advice I ever got was that kids can't fall off the floor. A toddler bed is close enough to the floor to be reasonably safe.

Have you tried putting her in a baby sleeping bag to sleep? As her legs are contained in it, she wouldn't be able to use them to climb. It worked for us until my daughter worked out how to unzip it!

Dear Shawna, I have a solution for you. My first child was a climber and around 8 or 9 months he started trying to climb out. I had transfered him to a twin bed at a little over a year and thank god he was fine and never fell out. The crib just wasnt useful anymore. I am now 14 weeks along and this time I made a change. I bought what is called a safety crib tent. It has so many features, it is well worth the money since you can use them up 2 years old or some even up to a 3 yrs old. One good feature is it prohibitst the child from climbing out by attaching to the crib rails and having a zipper that opens from the outside only. If you also have a house cat like I do now, who loves to climb in the crib to investagate, the tent will also keep them out. As the child gets older and moved into their own room, there will be no worries of the child climbing out and wondering around the house. It also prohibits older children from helping your little one out of the crib to wonder. When ontop of the crib, the top of the tent stands normal adult height, which means any young child will not be able to assit and getting the child out without you knowing. I have laundered all the babys crib stuff and placed the crib tent up already, no chances of cat hair on the blankets till the baby comes in feb. I cant wait until my little one arives.

Lol, how funny! They say that if they are able to climb out of the cribs to start them in a toddler bed, but how old is she? Yeah, like Alana said they do have the dome nets for cribs as well..

They have the dome nets that attach to the top of the crib so that kids can't climb out. I've never used one, but have friends that do and they have kept their kids from climbing out anymore.

my twins are 6 months and one is starting to get up on his hands and knees in the crib. I still have it on the highest level but I am afraid he's going to start doing the same thing. I have the beds that convert to toddler beds so I guess we'll do that if we have a problem.

My son slept in my bed or in his playpen every night until he was a little over eight months and the only I put him in a crib was because he crawled off my bed one morning (before he would wake me up by talking or pushing on me). He would have stayed in his playpen if it wasn't for his dad insisting on this being the perfect time for his crib. I am not going to say 100% they are safe because I honestly don't know but perhaps call the manufacturer of the brand of play pen.

Depends on how old your girl is. My girls started climbing out of their cribs early. (a little over a year) I got toddler beds for them, put each bed against 1 wall so there was only 1 way to roll off the bed, and put blankets on the floor around the sides of the beds as pads. They did still roll out of bed a couple of times but not even a week later they would sleep through the night without rolling off. They even enjoyed the freedom to get into their own beds without help. I did have 1 roll under the bed 1 time when she rolled off. but she never even woke up. :) Scared me when I couldn't find her.

If they are old enough and strong enough to climb up over the rail of a bed, they are old enough to be in a toddler bed that sleeps much closer to the floor for their safety.

My son did the same thing when he was 7 months old, If its on the lowest setting then your daughter must be very tall LOL. But i just lowered his bed all the way down to the floor. I dont know if thats the kind of bed you have or not, but it worked for him. Or you could take the thing that holds the mattress out and put the mattress on the floor and just lower the sides as far as they can go.

is there a bumper pad in the crib. if so take that out it helps them climb out. I always suggest to parents at the daycare I work for, once a child can climb out of cribs to start a toddler bed. That means a big pain to you, having to stay in the room until she falls asleep, then putting her back to bed when she climbs out in the night. But its safer than falling from the crib. If she can climb a crib it won't take long before she figures out the play pen. Sorry thats a big bummer that she's doing that a a young age. as least you know she's strong and ahead of her age group.

I started letting my daughter sleep with me when she started climbing out of her crib, she was almost 2, set on the lowest setting. She would never sleep in her playpen. I am a single mother so it doesn't matter if she sleeps with me. My cousin just bought a toddler bed for her son, he is two, he kept getting out. She had a few sleepless nights, but after a few nights of continually putting him back to bed he got the hint and started staying in bed.

you could just put the mattress on the floor, then it's only a few inches if she rolls off.

Putting her in a playpen/pack n' play thing might not be a bad idea since she is to short to climb it - yet.

My first thought when I saw your post was, yep, babies fall. But if its a continuing problem I think you may have found the solution yourself. She'll be safe and you'll get to rest.

Aren't they fun when they learn to climb?!?!! You've got a very smart an active girl there. How blessed you are! Enjoy!
