Help! My 6 year old girl is extremely smart and very social. She does great in school. The problem is that she seems to care less about the after school activities that she has asked/begged to be in (except for the social aspect). Examples are dance, swim, art, karate, soccer (No, not all at the same time). I used to think she was just not interested and needed a different activity, but now with the coaches and teachers becoming frustrated I am beginning to think it is a problem. How do I motivate her to have enthusiasm in her activities, and more so show the coaches and teachers respect for their time? I don't want her to think that quitting is okay.

I agree that once she commits she has to stick it out, if you pay by month then she needs to finish it out, of it's a season than she needs to stick with it. If she isn't willing to commit then don't sign her up for anything. Maybe try activities where she can observe or participate for a session or two before making the commitment. It took us a while to find something my son wanted to do and it makes a huge difference when it's what they want to do.

She's 6. Perhaps she isn't the athlete you want her to be... Quitting isn't making her a quitter it's making her well rounded. :)

Thanks ladies, sometimes as a mom you start to doubt your ways. It always helps to have confirmation. Much appreciated!

She should finish out the school year in these activites, tell her she asked for these activities, she needs to at least try. Perhaps you could sit down with coach/teachers with your daughter and explain the problem and the group can find solutions
