What I have found to work is a bottle of water with some corn syrup in it. This loosen the stools.

Hi there. I had trouble with one of my twin daughters not being able to poop. She was so constitipated that her and I would both cry and cry until she went potty. I finally found this stuff called Docusate Sodium Liquid from my pharmasist. You don't need a script for it but ask your pharmasist about it. It worked miracles for our little girl, it could od the same for you. It's cheap, just put a little in her juice, and presto. No problem. She was on that stuff for almost two years until ahe just got over it. Also, try tiny pieces of apricot, I know but it works for real. NO BANANA ANYTHING. Bananas constipate. Hope that helps.

Banana's may be causing the constipation! Try more things with fiber (some of the cereals) and prunes will work for sure!

yeh I agree with the water and prune juice. My mum and my mum in law have both reccommended that juice 30% and water 70%. Good luck :)

I would lay off the bananas for awhile they tend to constipate. My son had digestive problems up until he was 4 months and my pediatrician had us give him an ounce or two of apple juice mixed with an ounce or two of water when he was constipated. Usually within a day he was back to having normal bowel movements.

Being a pediatric nurse the Dr's have always advised 1 tsp brown sugar in 2 oz of warm water 2 times daily for no longer than 3 days if no results our dr want to see the baby in the office for evaluation.

How recently did you start her on solids? She could be just adjusting. Ease up on the bananas (they're binding) and the weet bix (she may be too young to digest them effectively) and add more fruits (berries, peaches, apples they all have lots of fiber and water). Be sure not to give her more than 4 oz of juice/water a day. Perhaps switch forumla.

Good luck!

25 yrs ago I was told a tbls of dark Karo syrup in my baby's formula and it did the trick. (Don't have the husband get Aunt Jemimas just because it's HIS favorite pancake syrup!!) 5 yrs later, the nurse couldn't tell me such a homeopathic cure to constipation, but it works!

My daughter had the same problem and none of the home remedies helped so her ped told me to put a teaspoon of miralax in her bottle. It helps her. You can get it over the counter and walmart and target also in grocery stores. The bad thing about my daughter is she will be on it for the rest of her life probably. Check with your ped first. There might be an internal problem. My daughter had to get a barium enema at Childrens Hospital first to rule out any internal problems.

Well, my sister's son was constipated when he started eating solid foods, and she tried a bunch of things too, even prunes! But she realized later it was a lack of water. Once she got more water into him, through a sippy cup and by watering down his food, he was back to pooping normally:) My son recently started solids as well and didn't go one day...the next day he had only a small, very dry poop. I gave him some water in a cup, and added extra water to his food and that seemed to help. I also breast-fed a little more which might have also done the trick.

It's old fashioned, but someone gave me this tip, and it really works.
Use Karo syrup. Just a little less than a cap full with about an ounce of water.
Poo will come in no time.

My 7 month old son has problems with constipation too.

You can also put some dark Karo syrup in her forumula, about 2 tbs in a bottle of formula. We've had the best luck with this. You can give prune juice, if she'll take it, and that will probably make her go, but don't give it to her too often because her digestive system can become dependant on it to work. I usually dilute the juice, 2 oz. juice with 2 oz. water. This shouldn't be something you use every day to help her poop, but once in a while when she's really bound up. You can also use apple juice or a mixture of juices. Prune baby food works too, but my son hated them at first! I mixed half and half with apples.

Another trick is to try a different type of cereal if she is on cereal. We've had really good luck with Barley cereal. I can only find it in a mixed variety with two other grains, but it seems to work very well. It is actually the only thing that has helped us consistently.

I'd be careful of the bananas because the potassium in them can actually cause constipation.

prune juice diluted with half water 10 mills of each up to twice per day, or aple juice/orange juice. pureed pears and apples, coloxyl drops, 5-10 mills extra water to the formula when you make it up, plenty of water between feed my daughters dietician had her on up to 300 mills water per day, vaseline on a cotton tip every time you change the napy, warm baths, lower tummy massage in a circular motion, suppositoires as a last resort (i never used them with my daughter for 12 months), eliminate iron frm the diet which includes rice cereal, try changing formula, or paracho if older then about 7 months.

Per our pediatricians advice, we mixed a tiny bit of Karo light syrup in with the formula. Our little guy would strain and be constipated as well. Consult with your pediatrician. I would also do a warm bath and baby massage.

Boiled and pureed dried apricots worked a treat for Jacob and kenza - just a tablespoonful with oyougurt or on its own as a desert! you can do a batch and freeze in ice cube trays to be ready when you need it!

There are these things called suppasitory( somethings like that) you can get at Wal-greens that you put in the baby's butt and it helps them to poop. You used then no more then 5 days and TheY WORK GREAT. My daughter was constipated and that is what they doctor said to get.

As your daughter is now 6 months old you can introduce a wide variety of fruit, vegetable purees and porridge.Prune juice is ideal as it will help enormously.
Be careful when measuring out formula as the ratio to water must be correct as this is a main cause of constipation in babies and can quickly lead to dehydration. Plenty of boiled water and diluted fruit juices can be offered as this will aid her digestion and help keep body hydrated.
One aid that you may like to try is put baby on her back and gently rotate her legs.Rubbing her tummy too can help as the action induces movement through the bowel.
A warm bath is soothing and plenty of cream will also be needed.
I hope this is helps greatly and please let us know how you get on.

it sounds strange but take a q-tip and rub it just on the inside of her butt and sometimes the pressure helps relieve them.

Jo, if she is constipated water is about the best thing to give - loads of it, It sounds like she is eating a good variety, and bananas are a great source of fibre. Some formulas can cause constipation, too.
