Allow me to introduce you to a great product called Renew daily lotion. Only available through www.meleleuca.com and you need to be a member ($29 one time only). My daughter had such severe eczema we stopped taking her out because of peoples reactions to her skin. She is very allergic to dairy, eggs and mildly reactive to peanuts. Renew lotion is one of many enviro friendly products offered on the website and all of it is available in Canada. Anyone wanting to become a member of Meleleuca Wellness Co. type me a line, I'd be thrilled to share information about these products. Bets of luck finding whats right for you and your family.

We are constantly battling eczema in our house. I have found that wheat can make it worse or even the onset of a cold. When my kids have an outbreak of eczema I wash them in an oatmeal bath and then use Aquaphor by Eucerin which is just a very thick lotion and it takes a few days but that clears it up. I prefer not to use the cortizone creams or prescriptions since they can cause other problems.

My experiance is that you have to try and try and try to find a help for your child.
We use Protopic 0.1% (Salbe Tacrolimus-Monohydrat) produced by Astellas. That is good cream and they say this cream do not "damage" child's skin like other does. IT is free from corticosteroids.

Your pediatrician should be able to prescibe something.. But try EUCERIN creme...really good but expensive. Also try putting vasoline on her hands and putting manicure gloves on her and this will keep the moisture in. I have 3 children who have eczema. I have tried the glove thing overnight with my son and it really works.
Good luck!

My son has extremely sensitive skin...as do my husband and I. We had to go fragrance free with detergents, fabric softeners, and soap (only use sensitive skin Dove). We only use Aveeno un-scented moisturizers too and happy to say it has cleared up all exzema and dry skin rashes on our baby.

I havent actually read all the replies so please excuse this if it is a repeat... My 14 mon daughter had severe eczema and cradle cap from about a few weeks on and when she was 9 months old after LOTS of Dr appt and creams, shampoos, steriods, etc we were referred to an allergist. She is severly allergic to milk, eggs and moderately allergic to wheat, corn and peanuts. I am nursing her so she wasnt actually "eating" any of those things but I was and she was getting the proteins of those foods thru my milk. I cut those things out and she got better with in days!!! She will still have a flare up... in the cracks of her arms, backs of her knees or ankles if she or I eat something we are not supposed to but I would maybe have her checked for allergies... GOOD LUCK!!!
OH.. we use aquaphor all the time!! I put her in long sleeves pants and socks and she can take an antihistamine if she is itchy...

Can you get Eurcine? I think that is how it is spelled. My daughter has had this from the day she was born. Cortizone can really irretate it. If you can also try Blue Star oniment. That really works great. Use it at night and try to keep their skin moist this will help.

Hi... my daughter was born with ezcema 10 yrs ago... we tried lots of prescribed creams and nothing helped... The only thing that has worked for us is AVEENO cream, just read the label and go with the one that is best suited to your child's needs... Also when bathing or showering teach your child not to use too much soap and always use gentle ones, Aveeno also has great liquid soaps.... Hope this helps! It's helped us... GOODLUCK!

Hi! I have four kids, all of whom have benefitted from Arbonne International's pure, Swiss Skin care!! My 8 yr old has particularly sensitive skin, eczema prone...we use the Arbonne Baby Line (does NOT smell like baby powder as that is a Chemical fragrance: Arbonne doesn't integrate artificial colors, fragrance, petroleum or animal products in their lines). We have also had FANTASTIC results with the NutriminC RE9 Body Set, also from Arbonne. www.LifeChoice.myarbonne.com
I can explain how to get a 20% discount. (flyboys_gal@hotmail.com). Arbonne is in the US, Canada, Austrailia and the UK. Hope this helps!

My 6yr old just developed eczema this year...her hands get soo red and sore. I can't seem to find anything that works well enough to clear it up. ( i have been told that usage of cortizone should be restricted to once in a while..) I need something that works well that i can use EVERYDAY! I also live in Canada, and am not able to get a hold of some of the American stuff due to cross bordering etc. Help!?!
I haven't seen anyone mention something called Bag Balm. It's sold in a little green can and actually is meant for keeping cow's udders from becoming chapped. It is very similar to the cream sold for nursing mothers (Lansinoh) to apply to cracked nipples ( lanolin- is the ingredient here which is also in the creams like Aquaphor that others are recommending). Eucerin did not work for me on our 2 year old, or the watered down lanolin creams like Aquphor. Try the Bag Balm if you can find it . It's pure lanolin. Vermont Country Store used to sell it (they are online) or I've seen it in local drugstores. Not sure what the situation will be in Canada. It cleared my son's eczema right up even though he also was to the point of cracks that bled. My Doctor also recommended Dove bath products and NOT the "no tears" soaps and shampoos since they are formulated to be nice to your eyes but not your skin. Also... don't over-bathe.

Ask the pharmacist for some castor oil. After a bath and before bed rub it on any sore spots. It won't sting but is a little tacky before it soaks in. White cotton gloves work well for keeping it on hands. Good luck.

Acquaphor works well. It is thick, but very helpful. This is what our pediatrician recommended for my daughter. I definitely suggest using fragrance-free and dye-free laundry detergent as well. That has pretty much eliminated the problem with my daughter.

My son has eczema, too, and the best thing I have ever used (and I have used a LOT of stuff, both RX and OTC) is a RX for Triamcinolone mixed with Eucerin. Triamcinolone is a mid-strength hydrocortisone, so it is strong enough to knock out even tough eczema, but when you mix it with the Eucerin it is a great preventative moisturizer and dulls the strength of the steroid to kid-friendly levels. You do need a prescription though. Also put a humidifier in her room, it could be the dry air from running the heat in your house. All the docs say eczema gets better in warm weather when you turn the heat off. In the bath, Aveeno hair and body wash is the only thing that does not irritate my son.

Hi Linda. I'd like to recommend a natural and healthy alternative. I have a product called Ultimate Aloe juice and it has worked wonders for people with eczema and psoriasis, as well as digestive issues. My 8 year old loves it and actually takes it in place of a multi vitamin. To see a video of this product...copy and paste the following link into your browser, then click "view product demo" under the picture. If you would like to try the Aloe, I would be happy to send you a bottle at my cost to see how you and your child like it. Best wishes....Kim

Linda,
My 8 year old had eczema so bad to the point of I had to reconstruct her skin with a dermatologist. That worked for a little while, when she was 6 but as a parent we want permanent. I use a product now called Arbonne the conditioning oil and the body lotion combined are the best. She has an occasional dry itchy spot now but nothing compared to what she did have. We at Arbonne have an office in Canada so it would be nothing extra for you to get it there. I would have to sponser you so that you can purchase it. Not just for eczema either... it's great for the whole family! If you are interested let me know. You can reach me on facebook. Jennifer Gray

I have been dealing with exzema with my 9 year old son since he was 4 years old. I've been to many specialists and pediatricians and therapists and allergy specialists..you get the picture! They had him on all kinds of steriods and lotions and light therapy treatments and he would scream and cry because it burn so much. (He had it from his neck down and his hands and feet were the worst of it) I felt horrible. So after a couple years of all this I finally said screw all that and slowly took him off everything. I was told by some doctors that stressed or worried kids have a tendancy to break out more than others. Now he has been cleared up for a couple years and we just put lotion (usually cetaphil) and use cetaphil soap, the dreft (babys laundry soap) and take only a few baths/showers during the week. At night time we smother his hands in lotion and put soft gloves over top. He also drinks A LOT of water. I noticed that his skin is a million times better if he stays hydrated. I hope this helps!

it sounds like my son has something very similar to your daughter. In the winter his hands get very almost chapped and the skin will break open and bleed. We have started to use gold bond hand cream and as long as he puts it on everyday or every other day his hands are pretty much normal. It has really helped us out this winter. It costs about $5 for small bottle of it but it has lasted us for over a month and his hands don't hurt anymore.

it was a few years ago but we got the chemist to make a mixture - I think it was 50% white parafin and 50% liquid parafin.......so it was like really gooey vaselline...eventually I found some pre-made by the Melbourne Children Hospital (we live in Australia) so you may find something on the shelf....for our daughter the eczema was all about dry skin so I just applied this really intensive moisturiser constantly - she was like a little oiled up baby doll and it did the trick. I'd get her to sleep with this on really thick at night with cotton gloves on her hands - it soakes into everything and may ruin a bit of clothing but if it works it's really worth it. Oh and be patient it won't fx the problem overnight te skin has to get moisturised and heal.
Good Luck

My two children have suffered from really bad excema and have been on cortizone cream, balnium and diprobase. I didn't like using the cortizone because it can pigment the skin as it has steriods in it, we even changed all our laundry detergents diet everything. I came across a company called Forever (all natural products) and after reading testimonials from other people started using their soap and Propolis cream, Within a month their excema had cleared . Even my GP was impressed. Doesn't matter if you are in Canada this company is worldwide. let me know if you want a couple and will make a plan. My email address is contact@little-baobab.co.uk

I agree with the last two responders. My dtr. got excema at the age of one, and i was advised to get her allergy tested, which i did. She has allergies to 3 types of foods. We obviously avoid the foods which lessens the excema, but she still gets reactions to other things. The dermatologist gave us some steroidal creams, which we use when it is really bad. Aquaphor has worked the best for us with sporadic dryness and excema. The dermatologist has also said, when bathing, sit in water to moisten skin and quickly use soap at the end(don't sit in soapy water) so skin doesn't get dried out. Gently dry after bath and put lotion on. Good luck.

HiLinda, AIM www.aimafrica.co.za has some poducts (I can't remeber which ones- so you'll have to contact them directly) that are suppose to assist with Ezema. Certain essential oils are also believed to bring relief, although again youneed to consult someone that is better qualified in aromatherapy for the exact oils. Mary Ann Shearer ,author of the Natural Way, could also assist you with a consultant in your area to assist with lifestyle eating habits to assist in reducing high acidic systems and/or other symptoms of our lifestyles in the 21st century ;-) www.mary-anns.com

Hi my son brakes out badly in exzema, and we use aveno's oatmeal bathtime stuff, and the baby aveeno lotion, and also the aquaphor, morning and night. Steroid cremes will help, but get to the bottom of it. I am right now eliminating wheat from his diet and i think it is helping, but wheat is in everything. I really feel like this is an issue that stems from something we put in our diets or from our environment, but for immediate relief try aquaphor, and keep it very clean.

Hi ya, I had always suffered with eczema and psoriasis as a child, and in my teens we changed our family GP. He is also a Naturopath and specialises in alternative therapies. I was allergic to dairy products and restricting my diet of dairy resulted in almost immediate relief from theses skin conditions. I have since met several people who have had skin conditions and have found them to be the result of food allergies. I would def suggest you consider checking this out with your GP, or even try some dietary restictions for your child and see if you get positive results. Document everything you try, and then if you need to you can give this info to your health professionals. A big bonus to this approach is you are not paying for lotions or creams, and nor is there any potential to be applying anything that could be damaging to your child in the long run. Best of luck!

Not sure if you can get it or not, but my cousin use to have really bad eczema on her arms & they use to use mud packs. A family member use to own a business where they did the body wraps with the stuff soaked in mud & that is what she used & it worked really good for her. It was the only thing, however, I am not 100% sure where you would find it...probably not much help but maybe you can find it...

Hi Linda,
My daughter has eczema and to keep it under control, she has a bath every night with about 1/2 cup of baking soda and 1/2 cup of fine sea salt which really helps to soothe her skin (it's also cheap to buy :)). Then immediately after I lather on the Aquaphor. Occasionally for bad flare-ups we use a prescription steroid cream too. I've tried many different lotions and Aquaphor is by far the best but your daughter may be different so you may need to keep trying lotions until you find the right combination. Another friend of mine recommends Vanicream. In the US, it can be found behind the pharmacy counter but does not require a prescription.
Hope this helps!
