Hello, both of my children have eczema and what I had found to be best and not a lot of money is a tub of Eucerin. It is thick like shea butter and keeps the moisture in their bodies. Additionally, they would wash with either Dove sensitive skin bar soap or oatmeal body wash. The lotion and body wash can be even bought at Walmart's brand- Equate which is just as good. The pediatrician gave these suggestions to me and it is definitely working.

When I was young I had a lot of issues with my hands a dryness, cracking and bleeding. I was told it was envirnmental and I would gro out of it. My son had eczema after he was born until just after a year old. For me, doctor's told me to wash my hands with Dove soap only and use Eucerin lotion after each time I washed. My son was prescribed Elidel, a steroid cream, which worked really well. Aquaphor and Eucerin are the best lotions to use. Stay away from any soaps and lotions with fragrances and alcohols. It is worse in the winter, so keep lotion on after each wash

I wanted to let you know there is this lotion you can normally only get from pharmacy's called Theraplex Hydrolotion for everyday use and they have Theraplex clear lotion to put on after baths or showers....here is the website http://www.theraplex.com/ also when needed you can use prescribed from your Dr. a steriod called Hydrocortisone Valtrate Cream only when needed though another thing i have used is the Aveeno's oatmeal bath which is good to soak in. Hope this helps i know it did us. Also most children who have eczema are allergic to wool so anything with Lanolin in it might make the eczema worse just so you know....

I also live in Canada, and am not able to get a hold of some of the American stuff due to cross bordering etc. Help!?!

All your recommendations are fine, but when you have a small child, if you can avoid steriods, i.e. cortisone, you should. I have had eczema for almost 30 years and have tried everything. In addition, I own a salon and I deal with solvents that irritate it all the time. The absolute best lotion I have ever used is Axiom Lotion. It starts healing almost immediately. It's so effective, I let my staff use as much as they need. Even better yet, it stays on through 3 washings. Great for new moms and nurses too.

It would probably be a good idea to speak to an herbalist. A lot of these skin problems can be linked to the immune system. Anything you use topically or pharmaceuticals will only deal with the symptom, not the underlying problem. It will tend to get worse and worse because the medications will only push the problem further and further in causing other problems with a host of new symptoms. I work with a wonderful man in Arizona and he will consult over the phone for free. I am 53 and he has helped with with numerous things that I had been dealing with for a long time. If you are interested in speaking to him, again, at no charge, his number is 928-445-3926. Blessings, Gabriella

My daughter developed infantile eczema that was triggered by food-green beans of all things. She got a huge itchy rash all over her trunk, front and back, and around her mouth where she smeared the beans. I immediately took her off green beans (she's not had any since), and per pediatrician recommendation we started using Gold Bond Ultimate Healing Lotion. I used it at every diaper change, and I can tell you that stuff is wonderful. She's 16 months now, not a spot of eczema on her, and her skin is super soft from the lotion. Did your daughter just begin school this year full time? Could she be allergic to something being used in arts and crafts? Glues, markers, etc., event the tempra paints used in art classes could be a culprit. Good luck. I hadn't had any issues with this skin condition until this child (3 daughters), you never know what can happen with each one.

they never tell you this but when you apply the cream rub it on in one direction. Do not rub back and forth or in a circular moshion. so up only or down. if you dont do this as you rub in anycream it will agritate the eczma. Hope this helps. EPEDERM hard wax is very good.

I forgot to mention that he/she may have allergies. Eczema is usually triggered by allergies. I would try taking him off wheat or nuts and if that doesn't work milk. If you have to take him off milk rice milk is a good alternative since it is fordified with calcium. Keep me posted!

Do you have Aquafer? That seemed to work on my son when he was little. Also, for relief I used the Aveena soothing oat bath. It is amazing and gave him so much relief. Just dump it in his bath. He will love you! Good luck. Poor little baby. It's hard watching our little babes in pain. Let me know if you find anything better.

My kids all have eczema. My oldest had a bad reaction on her hands. One thing that finally worked was, I made her stop using the soap at the school. For whatever reason, the soap made her hands break out, and they were so painful. I had her take in hand sanitzer and made sure the teachers knew. The problem quickly cleared up. I am not really sure if it was the soap. It could have been the paper towels, it could have been she wasn't rinsing her hands well. But it cleared up once she avoided to combination of all.

All four of my children have Eczema. My 6 year old has it so bad on her hands they bleed. I have tried EVERY kind of lotion and cream you can think of. I finally found something that works. It's called bag balm. I put it on her at bed time. If I use it on her hands I also make her wear gloves to help trap the moisture in. Give it a try it works!!

Our two year old also suffers from severe excema. We use Aveeno Baby, Soothing Relief Moisture Cream. I also believe it is triggered by food. Sugar seems to be our daughters trigger. ALso look at supplements that assist is developing healthy skin. Of course consult your physician first.

I'm from Alberta, which is generally pretty dry most of the year. My daughter started having eczema after she started grade one. It always showed up in late fall & cleared up in the summer. Her hands got really bad to the point of cracking & bleeding but it was minor on her elbows & knees. Like most people, I started using the hydrocortisone cream prescribed by the doctor. It helped some, but I know it can cause damage to the skin, so I started asking around. I've never heard of the stuff most commonly mentioned here, but a lot of people recommended Gycomed hand cream. It can be found over the counter in any pharmacy, and contains silocon. I found it to be ok, but ends up being greasy. Another suggestion was to try a handcream (sorry, I don't remember the name, but it smells like diaper cream). It works a lot better. The other thing I started doing is putting fragrance-free moisturizer on all her eczema prone spots...generally I used Jergens....in the morning, before bed, and after every bath/shower. For her hands, which were the worst spots, I sent handcream to school, and made sure she moisturized every time she washed her hands. It worked great as a preventative measure, and hardly ever had to use the prescription stuff after that. Ironically, the doctor commended my actions, so sometimes it's good to trust your instincts.
The other thing he told me is that when a child reaches puberty, the condition often reduces in severity or disappears completely. Which is what happened with my daughter. She's 11 this year & only gets it on her hands, now. So hang in there, and good luck.

My four year old daughter has eczema too. I would recommend using plain old pure vaseline (without any scent). Also, try oatmeal baths to soothe the outbreaks (you can probably buy oatmeal bath packets in your drug store/grocery store). I also use a brand called Gentle Naturals for baby eczema. Here is the website (you can buy it online too) http://www.gentlenaturals.com/products/e... This is for very sensitive skin and it won't burn. Try vaseline if you can't find this. Hope this helps!

To help clear it faster, you can use a low dosage hydrocortisone (1% or 2%) that is usually available over the counter (is in the U.S) and then apply Aquaphor over it to seal it in. 2 of my sons had eczema as babies. I also like Aveeno products and they do make a cream that is formulated for eczema but does not contain any steriods. This worked well for maintenance with my youngest once we cleared the eczema. Good luck!

I am also Canadian, so you would have no trouble finding it at any body shop. You can usually get little sample tubes so you aren't spending money on a whole bunch of different things that might not work!

I suffered from eczema as a child and nothing seemed to help much except vitamin E cream & oils and only for temporary relief. My mom tried everything from cortizone to home remedies, and wearing cotton gloves all day. My hands would crack and bleed and it deformed my nail beds permenetly. As a teenager I bought a tube of Hemp protective barrier cream from the body shop and it actually worked! I would use the cream every time I washed my hands ( it is really thick and does not take much) and it cleared it up in about a week. It smells a little funny but it worked for me. Good Luck.

Hi,
My daughters has had eczema since she was a little one but my midwife found a fantastic cream and a lotion that you can put in the bath it is called Oilatum Junior. I am not sure if you can get it in Canada but it works great for her and it worked so quickly and it also clears up any flair ups.
Good Luck

My son has it as well. His allergist says to soak them in the bath for about 15-20 min, do not towel dry. Wrap them in the towel but let them dry a min or two in the towel, dont wipe them dry. Then take vaseline while they are still wet and rub it all over them. It will be slippery but what it does is hold in the moisture which is what they need. cheap and easy!! It works great

Hello,
My 2 year old son has it and I couldn't find anything for the longest time either.. and then I tried Aveeno NO SCENT lotion. It works... I also use the Aveeno baby wash on him and them combined are awesome on his skin! I hope you can get Aveeno over there! Hope it helps.. the key, what my pediatrician told us is that do not use anything scented on him. And it works! So even if you can't get Aveeno lotion.. try whatever you have there that is non-scented! It may work!

I use reverse osmosis water on my son's face because he has excema there and just wash it with the Aveeno oatmeal and it usually keeps it pretty clear. His isn't severe, though, but at times it can get really red, so I do that when he is in the bath or needs his face washed and it clears up.

my daughter has eczema too.... she's only 16 months old. But I was told to use lotion to keep the moisture in the area. Also, my younger sister has it pretty bad too, so a prescription lotion from your doctor might be a good idea too.
