My 8 month old daughter leaks out of her diapers every day.

She's in size two huggies which go up to 18 pounds. She's only 14 pounds so I don't think they're too small, but unless she's standing she leaks up the back. Would this be a size/brand/style issue or just purely from volume? Any suggestions??

I recomend going up a size. I found my daughter was leaking out of hers so I went up a size and I have had no problems since. I also use Pampers though... My daughter is 6 months old and is 16lbs shes in size 3 diapers

Wow, thanks for all your responses. I should have clarified, when I said leaked I meant from poop. As soon as I hear her or she makes "that face" I have to run and stand her up. Someone asked how many times she goes in a day. She has 3-6 bm's a day. It's been nuts since she started teething. I've been using huggies supreme, but from what you have all said I may need to try some other brands and another size.

Thanks!

May look into overnight diapers but I think the smallest in 3 and I could only find them occasinally at Babies R Us.

Huggies,, and Luvs both leaked for me, and I didn't really like the way the Pampers fit on my 3rd (but I didn't have a problem w/ them on my 1st or 2nd). I really liked White Cloud diapers best and they never leaked.

Hi Melanna,

My bub's Sienna had similar issues with Huggies brand. I have found the best brand is Baby love, they work better and are softer too... ps your lil girl is adorable.

I'm agree with Aliza....Target has the best generic diaper out there!!!

Okay, here's the scoop...  "Poundage" doesn't matter, if they leak, get the next size bigger. I have five children and they continue to surprise me. Also, I'm not impressed with Huggies, I'm not sure why they're the most expensive. Pampers and Luv's do a much better job, in fact, Target has one of best generic diaper out there. I find that all three are much softer, that got to be a good thing for babies tush...

I have used many types of diapers between my 2 children. With the older one i loved to use Luvs, but with my second child they always leaked... i think they changed them! I now only buy pampers! They seem to hold the most.

I don't know if you will find this helpful, but in my humble opinion, it could be that she is in the diaper too long. My hunch is the volume, if after you swtiched brands. I usually change my baby every 2-3 hours. I swtiched to cloth diaper recently and she has never ever leaked in them and I don't mind changing her more often than when we used disposables because it didn't feel like I was throwing money away! It's really a lot easier than I thought it would be so I just wanted to throw it out there...there are so many affordable and cute choices of cloth diapers these days and laundering isn't really so bad, I promise!

I have 2 boys & have always used Huggies Supreme. When they started leaking I knew it was time to move up a size & then everything was fine. Don't rely on the sizes on the box.

I have heard from others that it seems Huggies are great for boys & Pampers are great for girls. I did try Pampers once but I didn't like the scent they had.

I have never liked Pampers, I find they do not leak but they fill up really full and I find them very wet after just one pee. My daughter is 19 pounds and I wear size 4 on her, the 2's and 3's are too small. I live in Canada and my all time favorite diapers are the Presidents Choice brand from Atlantic Superstore, they have never leaked and they always put them on sale for $10 for a big box of 120.

I have a boy and when he was just sleeping through the nite he would leak

everytime.. We try and point IT up and changed diaper brands and now he makes it

11 hours without leaking.  so it could be the diaper, they all fit different and

all babies are differently shaped.

All 3 of my children had the same issue and i found that you can buy pads to put into the nappies similar to adult lady pads they make the nappie extra absorbant and worked very well for me

With my first child, this is how I found out she needed the next size of diapers.  Sounds like that has already been suggested!  Even though she is still within the weight limit, you have to think about her size.  My daughter was tall and skinny -- to the point where at her first birthday we had to turn the carseat around just so her legs had room.  She didn't weigh more than 20 pounds until she was about 18 months old.  Good luck!

I personally don't like Huggies. They always leaked for us. I would try pampers. They are my favorite. I have used them for all 5 kids.

Melanna,

My daughters had the same problem. I prefered using Pampers diapers as they held more. Some moms will disagree, but this proved true with my twins. Pampers makes a brand for the movers and shakers in our lives, and if your daughter was anything like mine, it would be the one to try. You may also want to try a size bigger, just make sure the legs are snug and fold the back and front down to fit better. Again, this worked for me when I ran into the leaking problem.

Good Luck!

I would get a small pack of one size larger diaper and just try it.  It doesn't hurt to try.  After three boys, that is how I learned to go up a size rather than looking on the package.

I have this problem often with my son but it is overnight and they don't make overnights for his size. He is 15 months old and usually is wet when he wakes up in the morning. I change him at the last minute b/4 I know he is going to bed. I use Luvs but huggies are the best. At night I put the overnight over his regular diaper since it is bigger. Maybe a double diaper will help.

Huggies Overnights are awsome! I was just thinking the same thing as Kristen, that maybe they are not done up tight enough. With my first I was always so worried about squishing her tummy, but diapers are made super stretchy for that reason. If changing brands doesn't work or whatever (I found Huggies only worked for us if they were Huggies Supreme) try those plastic covers some people use for potty training with real undies. We did that and it helped soooo much.

Which Huggies do you use? I found that the Huggies UltraTrim worked better for me than the Huggies Supreme. The Supreme also tended to be smaller/tighter and I had move up a size from what I would normally buy.  I never had much luck with Pampers or Luvs, but I did like the brand that Walmart carried that was cheaper...forget the name...but had those cute little yellow ducks on them. LOL  I've been in the Philippines for so long that I can't remember.  Anyway...over here, i had to experiment with different brands to find something I liked, so sometimes trial and error is the only way to know what will work for you. Maybe you can write different companies and request a sample or 2 of their diapers to try them and see if you have leaking issues before you buy a whole pack.   Sometimes we had leaking issues when my hubby would do the diaper just cuz he didn't position it well or fasten it quite right.  My 8 month old has become quite wiggly now and so getting the diaper on correctly is more challenging.  She has been having "fuller" bms now and sometimes they go up the back of the diaper...not usually out the top, but sometimes very very close.  If you are referring just to the bms up the back, how often does your dd go a day usually? My baby girl will sometimes not go at all for a while and then have a big one..and that's the one that usually leaks or almost leaks up the back of her diaper. Don't think there's much I can do about that unless I adjust her diet so she goes more regularly or something, but she is happy and not cranky or constipated, so I think it's fine...just a bit messy at times. ;) LOL

oh - also...make sure the ruffles on the inside and outside of the diaper are not tucked in so that they can do their jobs correctly.  Just a thought!

Oh Melanna.. My son had the same issue and it lasted till just weeks ago and he is 7 months. We tried everything and ended up just waiting it out. I feel for you you must be hand washing outfits everyday like I was. You did not mention how old your daughter was but introducing solid foods may relieve the problem! Good Luck!

I have used Huggies and Pampers and feel that the Pampers are better about not leaking.  Every time I have had a problem with leakage, I have gone up a size.  My daughter is also 8 mos old, and she's in Pampers Cruisers size 3.  I would suggest buying some size 3s and trying them out.  It's not like you won't use them eventually!

Having done this diaper thing 4 times (potty training #4 now YAY!), I can't stand leaky diapers...as if we moms have nothing else to do, right?! I know that sizes many times have overlapping weight recommendations...you could try bumping up to a size 3. If you don't think it's a size issue, maybe it's a brand issue. I know so many people say that more expensive doesn't necessarily mean better, but for SOME things I believe otherwise. Maybe try a small pack of a pricier brand to see it it helps. I've found that Pampers and Huggies prevent leaks better than Luvs with Pampers being the better of the two.

Does she leak all the time or just at night? I know we were going dealing with leaky diapers at night at one point, and we found Huggies Overnights (not sure if this is the exact name, but I believe they were Huggies). They held a greater volume, so they were so much better for a long period of time between changes. It seemed to help a lot!

Your little cutie may be wiggly at her age, so maybe diapering her is tricky. She may have a crooked diaper. Maybe the fasteners aren't tight enough around her tummy. Don't worry too much about it hurting her as diapers are nice and stretchy.

Good luck. Hope this helped!

I have a boy so I'm not much help but I know that using the Pampers swaddlers and Pampers cruisers worked really good for him. Now I'm using Huggies overnights on him. I think they are great I think you should try a size bigger for her so she doesn't leak out of them tho. I know that it looks funny but it might work all girls pee down so thats where its going to go. Hope I helped. Good Luck

IT could be the brand of pampers or they could be too small. I find that Luv's leak for my son, and what I started using was Target brand. They were work just as well, and they don't cost a fortune. But I would upgrad her to a 3 bc if she is drinking a lot of liquids and sleeping for a LONGTIME then that would that would cause for a leak;

Try moving up a size. My daughter is only 27 pounds and we have her in size 5s just to keep the leaking to a minimum.

Luvs worked the best for me and they are also the most cost effective. I could never use Huggies, always leaked for me. Hope you find some that work better for you.

Hi Melanna,

My son could only use Luvs diapers or he would leak all the time. I too had Huggies on my daughter but now have switched to Pampers Cruisers as the Huggies seemed to be to tight for her.  You may just want to try another brand and see if that helps.  It's kind of hit and miss.

My sister always told me that Huggies were the best for preventing leaks up the back. They have a little piece of extra elastic that you should pull out to make sure it is open to catch what comes up there. If that doesn't work then I would go ahead and move up a size.

Try Pampers and/or go up a size. Be sure to monitor her fluid intake...other than that change often to avoid rash. Hope this helps!
